Access Edge, by Centrix, is a kaolin clay-based gingival retraction paste prefilled in a convenient unit-dose syringe tip that fits into any Centrix C-R Syringe. Each tip is packaged individually in a foil pouch to ensure the material’s freshness.
Minimally-invasive and tissue friendly, Access Edge provides quick and easy tissue displacement without the need for cord packing. Access Edge can be injected sub-gingivally or packed around the tooth and left in place for several minutes.
The astringent action of the aluminum-chloride—plus the hemostatic and drying effects of kaolin clay—controls bleeding and seepage of fluid. The hydrophilic nature of the clay material absorbs excess fluids, enabling clear, dry access to sub-gingival margins for the clinician.
After application, the paste is rinsed out and air dried, leaving a clean, “open” sulcus. Depending on the individual patient, the process can be repeated if needed. Then the clinician is ready to take the final impression. —Julie Schmitt
