Mix, Load, Seat with Ease: RELYX LUTING PLUS OFFERS LOW SOLUBILITY AND EASE OF USE
I started using 3M ESPE RelyX Luting Plus Cement from the time it was first developed, and I have been encouraging colleagues to use it ever since?for more than 15 years. There are so many reasons to recommend RelyX Luting Plus, thanks to 3M ESPE?s expertise in both material science and product design.
As an avid fan of its precursor 3M Vitremer Luting Cement, I started using 3M ESPE RelyX Luting Plus Cement from the time it was first developed, and I have been encouraging colleagues to use it ever since?for more than 15 years. Features for Success
In long-term testing?and my own experience? RelyX Luting Plus has exhibited strong compressive and tensile strengths. It?s also moisture-tolerant, so I never worry about bond failure or leakage. I?ve also been especially impressed with the great marginal integrity (with low solubility) I consistently achieve, which is an advanced resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI) formulation. Additionally, I rarely have patients complain of postoperative sensitivity, and its sustained fluoride release helps caries-prone patients.
My case mix is approximately 90% metal free, with nearly all of the posterior units being full contour zirconia. The anteriors are mainly 3M ESPE Lava, with a small percentage of IPS e.Max. The remaining 10% is a mix of complete veneer gold crowns and high noble conventional PFMs and CAPTEK. I use RelyX Luting Plus exclusively (unless the restoration, such as IPS e.Max, requires bonding. In that case, I use RelyX Unicem). I can?t think of another cement that is as easy to use when delivering a full mouth reconstruction, 14 units at a time. When cementing 1 arch at a time, the ease of use and working times are truly comforting.
I have found clean-up to be exceptionally easy with RelyX Luting Plus, even using conventional curing techniques. This is the first RMGI cement with the option for tack light curing; 3M suggests the tack light cure technique, to make clean-up even easier. The tack light option was previously only available with the automix delivery system; 3M ESPE will also offer this option with the Clicker dispenser in 2013. Excess cement is cured for about 5 seconds per surface to speed up the gel state, and then large sections can be dislodged from the margins with an explorer. I also love the Clicker dispenser. I get a consistent mixing ratio because each click dispenses the exact dosage. I waste nothing and can monitor how much material is left with the Clicker?s consumption level indicator. Some of my colleagues prefer the alternate dispenser, the Automix syringe. This system mixes the 2 pastes consistently and dispenses the cement directly into the restoration. Ease of use, dramatic reduction of sensitivity, strong compressive strength, lack of clinical failures, and fluoride release are the main reasons I?ve been using RelyX Luting Plus and will continue to use it. The easy mixing, dispensing, and clean-up really ?cement? my loyalty to this proven, predictable material.
