RelyX Unicem 2 and RelyX Fiber Posts
RelyX Unicem 2 and RelyX Fiber Posts
3M ESPE RelyX Unicem 2 self-adhesive resin cement and RelyX Fiber Posts comprise a system that sets the standard for ease of use, reliability, and high-quality results.
In 2011, 3M launched RelyX Unicem 2 self-adhesive resin cement, the next-generation addition to the company's standard-bearer, RelyX Unicem cement, which was introduced nearly a decade earlier as the first self-adhesive universal resin cement.
3M developed the original RelyX Unicem self-adhesive resin cement in response to the need for less technique-sensitive cements when placing indirect restorations. RelyX Unicem cement became popular because it delivered everything dentists wanted: convenience, speed, performance, and esthetics. RelyX Unicem cement offers a high bond strength to both dentin and enamel, as well as a self-adherent and moisture-tolerant formulation that eliminates the time-consuming steps of etching, priming, and bonding.1
Continuing a Great Legacy
RelyX Unicem 2 cement (available in both the Automix and Clicker Dispenser delivery systems) is based on the same patented chemistry as the original RelyX Unicem (Aplicap/Maxicap Capsules and Clicker Dispenser). The new-generation product continues the legacy with its well-balanced mechanical properties and long-lasting esthetics, and virtually no postoperative sensitivity. Like the original, RelyX Unicem 2 cement combines convenience and ease with reliable clinical performance and enhanced bond strength. The original adhesion monomer, a phosphoric acid methacrylate (the patented initiator system and special filler technology behind the product?s unique neutralization behavior), is unchanged in RelyX Unicem 2 cement. It has shown excellent marginal sealing and integrity of bonding surfaces to tooth structure and restoration.2 It shows high bond strength to dentin, etchable ceramics, and zirconia.3,4
RelyX Unicem 2 cement is indicated for all-ceramic, composite, or metal inlays, onlays, crowns, and bridges; posts and screws; all-ceramic, composite, or metal restorations to implant abutments; 2- or 3-unit Maryland bridges; and 3-unit inlay/onlay bridges.
The unique chemical formulation of RelyX Unicem 2 cement raises its pH to a neutral level after application, contributing to the material's hydrophobic nature, allowing better resistance to water uptake, staining, and cracking. The improved formulation also lends itself to easy removal of extra material after curing.
Enhancements offered by the new formula include a new rheology, novel monomers, and differently processed fillers responsible for simplified mixing of the 2 pastes. RelyX Unicem 2 cement provides homogenous results, with enhanced bond strength to the tooth structure and to all restoration materials. The improved formulation offers even more convenience via its Automix delivery system: the syringe dispenses the ready-mixed cement using tips available in 3 sizes (standard, endo, and special intraoral tips) specially designed for different types of procedures. The Clicker Dispenser provides a consistent mixing ratio, exact dosage through easy clicks, and a consumption-level indicator for better material management.
RelyX Unicem 2 and RelyX Fiber Posts:The Perfect System
Using 3M's RelyX Fiber Posts with RelyX Unicem 2 cement ensures reliable clinical performance and eliminates the need for prior etching, priming, and bonding, as well as the need to prime and silanize the post. RelyX Fiber Post has a lower risk of root fracture than metal posts because its elasticity is closer to human dentin than metal and ceramic posts. In addition, RelyX Fiber posts offer an esthetic solution for all-ceramic restorations because their high translucency and appearance, similar to that of tooth structure, means that the posts are not visible through the restoration, and they support a natural light reflection.
The RelyX Unicem Aplicap Elongation Tip is designed to reach into the root canal, so cement application, from bottom to top, is simplified and the risk of entrapping air bubbles and voids is lower. In addition, if retreatment is required, RelyX Fiber posts are easily removed without damaging the tooth.
RelyX Unicem 2 cement is valued for its ease of use for virtually all indications, and RelyX Fiber Posts are a proven solution for cementing posts. When the 2 are combined, dentists are assured of convenience, high-quality, and long-lasting restorations.
