The question I asked myself after 10 years of using Ultradent?s AET Endo system was: why TiLOS? The AET System and technique had been great for me for over 10 years. It met my needs for endodontic procedures, and my patients were satisfied with the treatment I provided. Why should I change now?

The question I asked myself after 10 years of using Ultradent?s AET Endo system was: why TiLOS? The AET System and technique had been great for me for over 10 years. It met my needs for endodontic procedures, and my patients were satisfied with the treatment I provided. Why should I change now?

The answer, I discovered, is that I would be able to do a better job with less stress when faced with the ?hard? endodontic cases. The AET System included 3 mechanical stainless steel files and 4 hand files in each kit. TiLOS includes 3 mechanical stainless steel files, 3 NiTi mechanical files, and 2 stainless steel hand files in each kit. In other words, all the tools I would need no matter what area in the root canal I?m working.

Minimally Invasive Endodontic Treatment

The idea behind the design of the TiLOS files was to combine in one system the best metal suited for files in specific areas of the root canal, using the safest and most effective mechanical movement. I have found that TiLOS incorporates the right metal for the job. All of the mechanical files continue to be 30-degree reciprocating for better control, less aggressiveness than rotary files, and decreased risk of separation. The TiLOS hand files have a cushioned handle that reduces hand fatigue, especially on the most sclerotic cases, necessary to file canals.

The goal continues to be minimally invasive treatment of all root canals. I knew that the AET System provided safe and simple endodontic treatment of anterior cases. It also worked fine on posterior teeth, but I discovered that TiLOS optimizes properties of the existing AET and expands file options so that they can be used on all cases while maintaining safety.

File Options

The different properties associated with the different alloys used in the TiLOS files means they are beneficial in the various stages of root canal treatment.

NiTi rotary files are very popular in endodontics, but the biggest problem continues to be file separation regardless of the system being used. We know that in the apical third of the canal, the NiTi rotary file design works well. TiLOS incorporated that design to utilize Ultradent's 30-degree reciprocating handpiece, which greatly reduces the risk of file separation.

To put the finishing touch on this new system, Ultradent introduced an apical pack of NiTi hand files. This kit features 5 of the most common sizes of apical finishing files with a new cushioned handle.

Striving for Improved Treatment

The TiLOS system?s cleaning and shaping hybridization technique, along with the technology and speed of the biomechanical systems, maximizes the intuitiveness associated with traditional hand instrumentation. It also reduces the chance of complications, including ledging, zipping, canal transportation, unnecessary removal of tooth structure, and file separation.

As we strive to improve our endodontic treatment, TiLOS just makes sense.
