Today, more and more patients are requesting a whiter, brighter smile. Conservative smile enhancements are routine procedures in many dental practices, and the most common and controlled method for quickly changing someone’s smile is inoffi ce tooth whitening. Vital tooth bleaching is a viable and realistic option for many patients as a means to improve their smiles and overall appearance.

Based on what I have seen in my practice, tooth discoloration seems to be increasing. Typically it manifests as a result of aging, disease, or exposure to a variety of agents, including foods and beverages.

An Impressive System

In my efforts to fi nd a professional, inexpensive, and easy-to-use whitening product that will effectively whiten teeth, I had the opportunity to evaluate the Pola Offi ce+ whitening system from SDI (North America) Inc. Not only was I impressed with the outcomes of this system, but it was so easy to use that my staff really did most of the work.

Shine a Light on Quality

During my recent lectures in Australia, I had the opportunity to visit the headquarters and manufacturing facility for SDI in Victoria. Not only does SDI manufacture, test, and package their dental materials, but they also fabricate all of the delivery units (syringes, compules, and application brushes). The strict focus throughout the whole facility on cleanliness and quality control was very evident.

Pola Office+ uses a 37.5% hydrogen peroxide gel. While a light is not necessary, a bleaching light or standard heat-emitting curing light can be used to accelerate the process. In published literature investigating the effects of light activation of whitening agents, researchers have noted that the addition of light can increase the tooth-whitening effect of peroxide, even in concentrations as low as 15%.1

No Compromises

Conservative smile enhancements using in-office whitening can now be completed more efficaciously and comfortably. Like everything else in society, consumers demand fast and effective dental services delivered without compromise. Dentists who can meet this demand by using products—like Pola Offi ce+—that shorten treatment time will fi nd themselves busy with an infl ux of patient requests for these kinds of services.
