Vitrebond Plus Light Cure Glass Ionomer Liner/Base

3M ESPE’s trusted liner/base solution offers a history of clinical success and an award-winning delivery system.

Because 3M ESPE’s Vitrebond Plus Light Cure Glass Ionomer Liner/Base can be used in both direct and indirect restorations, many clinicians use this product and have benefitted from its ability to reduce postoperative sensitivity and perform under composite, amalgam, ceramic, and metal.

Building on a Solid Foundation

Introduced in 1988, 3M ESPE’s Vitrebond Light Cure Glass Ionomer Liner/Base was the first resinmodified glass ionomer on the market. Vitrebond Plus liner/base is the second generation and provides all of the major benefits of glass ionomer cements including adhesion to tooth structure and fluoride release. Additionally, the product features a prolonged working time with a curing time of only 20 seconds. The liquid-paste materials that comprise Vitrebond Plus are contained in the Clicker dispenser, which provides simultaneous dispensing of each component for a consistent mix and more predictable results.

Proprietary Technologies Deliver Results

Vitrebond Plus liner/base contains a proprietary 3M ESPE polyalkenoic acid copolymer that reduces technique sensitivity, provides for more consistent performance, and reduces the potential for postoperative tooth sensitivity. During the development of 3M ESPE’s Scotchbond Multi-Purpose adhesive system, researchers noted that the bond strengths of other dental adhesive systems tended to decrease when under varying humidity conditions. Also during this period, it was noted that Vitrebond liner/base bond strengths did not seem to vary to the same degree as other formulas. According to the manufacturer, the researchers learned that the proprietary copolymer used in Vitrebond liner/base yielded a system that was very resistant to the detrimental effects of varying humidity and provided more consistent bond performance to dentin. Since then, Vitrebond Copolymer has also been used in other 3M ESPE products, including RelyX Luting Plus Cement, Vitremer Core Buildup/Restorative, Adper Single Bond Plus Adhesive, Adper Easy Bond Self-Etch Adhesive, and now Scotchbond Universal Adhesive.

Reducing Post-op Sensitivity

3M ESPE notes that Vitrebond Plus liner/base is ideal for helping manage postoperative sensitivity due to a strong bond to dentin that seals the tooth structure, protecting against microleakage even better than the original Vitrebond liner/base. Additionally the product’s low viscosity fills all crevices of the cavity preparation, which is particularly important for clinicians when sealing the dentin of class I and II restorations where postoperative sensitivity often occurs. An in vitro test conducted by 3M ESPE showed a reduced effect of polymerization shrinkage of more than 50%.

Trusted Formula, Proven Results

With a trusted formula and a convenient, dispensing system, Vitrebond Plus liner/base offers clinicians the added assurance of a liner for greatly reduced polymerization shrinkage and virtually no postoperative sensitivity. Excellent performance under a wide variety of materials and a formula based on a history of clinical success make Vitrebond Plus liner/base a top choice among clinicians.
