medicaid fraud

Dr. Miranda Smith, owner of Smiles and Giggles Dentistry for Children and Adults, is being charged with Medicaid Provider fraud after investigators claim she billed more than $140,000 in unauthorized dental services for her patients including x-rays, anesthesia, and other dental procedures. The procedures were never performed on her patients.

Smith also hired individuals without proper dental knowledge to administer cleanings and other procedures to patients.

?According to investigators at least one minor patient's parent was told her child had eight cavities and would need to be sedated to perform urgent dental work. The parent received a second opinion from a dentist with more than 2 decades of experience. The dentist performed her own examination and found that the child had no cavities.?

Smith was charged with 2 counts of Medicaid Fraud that could result in up to 10 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines. The Florida Department of Health?s Board of Dentistry suspended her license to practice on May 16.
