I did not seek out dentistry as my first career choice; I was a clinical dietitian after receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition. I was introduced to dentistry through a family member and wrote a dietary paper on the correlation of nutrition and dental caries. There is still very little information on dental nutrition, and nutrition is often overlooked in physician medical training as well.
Originally, I had no interest in pursuing a career in medicine, but dentistry appeared to have an open door of opportunities. Dentistry is a career where dentists can impact their medical and patient community as leaders in communicating the effects of oral disease and its systemic impact on a patient's overall health.
I'm the Founder of the Give Back a Life Foundation, a nonprofit organization to help donate emergency dental services for victims of violence. My practice, Beautiful Smile LLC, proudly accepted the 2006 Forbes Enterprise Award, which recognizes small businesses for their visionary practices and achievements.
