As an engineer by training, it was a natural transition to dentistry for me because dental materials are at the center of dentistry and are developed by engineers and scientists. Dentistry is biological engineering ? analyzing or diagnosing the problem and then formulating a plan (i.e. treatment plan). The last phase is executing the treatment plan?being prepared for changes in the plan, eventually ending in the best result.
Dentistry has been a very rewarding profession for me. One of my most rewarding professional accomplishments is treating a patient who is self-conscious about her smile, and at the end of treatment, to see her smiling all the time with confidence. To take a patient from disease to health, with the patient successfully undergoing the dental treatment prescribed for them, is very fulfilling.
I have done pro bono dentistry for National Children?s Oral Health Foundation: America?s ToothFairy and am the Director of the Washington DC I.T.I. Study Club.
