Meet the Evaluator: Thomas M. Gilbert, DDS

I knew they enjoyed their professions, so I chose to follow in their footsteps with a medical career. The other reason, and probably more important, is that my grandfather was an industrial arts teacher and had a woodworking shop where he taught me to work with my hands and create all kinds of things. I incorporated these 2 avenues and came up with dentistry, which I thoroughly enjoy as a career.

The thing I enjoy most about the profession of dentistry is the trust and respect my patients have for me to do the right thing to take care of their mouths. I always try to follow WIDIOM: Would I Do It On Me. I follow this phrase and do it with the best of my skill and ability, and my patients appreciate that.

I spend some of my spare time volunteering for my local dental society. I am currently president, which enables me to interact with many dentists on a daily basis. I enjoy being involved, and my local dental society and state dental association are great ways to do this.

I became a DPS evaluator to have the opportunity to try new dental materials and equipment. I hope my opinions from these trials will be used by other dentists to help make choices on materials that they might use in their practices.
