Coincidentally, grape seed extract has the same effect on teeth as wine. A group of Spanish and Swiss scientists grew cultures of mouth-mimicking bacteria and then placed the object in different liquids, including red wine, alcohol-free red wine, red wine spiked with grape seed extract, water and 12% ethanol.

The research found that the red wines were the most effective at eradicating the bacteria from the samples, leading researchers to ponder the future of red wine mouthwash, toothpaste and other intraoral products.

Though wine does naturally stain teeth, pairing the wine with other items such as cheese can act as a polish as you chew and drink.

So, wine and cheese anyone?
