DUO-LINK SE combines innovative products in an easy-to-use kit that builds a solid foundation for all indirect restorations.

New from Bisco, the DUO-LINK SE Kit is a universal adhesive cementation system with all the components needed to address adhesion to both tooth structure and indirect substrates. Versatility is maximized with a primer for porcelain, lithium disilicate, and glass ceramic substrates, as well as one for zirconia, alumina, and metals. The dual-cured DUO-LINK provides an extremely high degree of conversion, both in light- and self-cure modes, while low film thickness and a high filler content ensure maximum performance in any clinical situation. The All-Bond selfetch adhesive is compatible with light-, self-, and dual-cured materials.

The kit includes 1 dual-syringe DUO-LINK shade (translucent universal), a 6-mL bottle each of All-Bond SE parts I and II, a 2-oz bottle of Z-PRIME Plus, a 3-mL bottle of porcelain primer, as well as accessories and instructions. The items are also sold separately, and DUO-LINK is also available in clear.

Effectiveness and Versatility

DUO-LINK SE produces outstanding bond strengths to multiple substrates and to short tapered crowns. A primer for porcelain, lithium disilicate, and glass ceramic substrates achieves the highest bond strengths during immediate application and over time. A proprietary combination of 2 proven adhesive monomers provides a primer that produces the strongest and most durable adhesion possible to zirconia, alumina, and metals. DUOLINK’s hydrophobic formula minimizes hydrolysis, providing the ideal seal.

The 12 dentists who participated in this Dental Product Shopper evaluation rated both the initial bond strength to enamel/dentin and the initial seal achieved with DUO-LINK SE. Initial bond strength was rated as excellent by 6 evaluators, as very good by 4, and as good by 2. Five evaluators rated initial seal as excellent, 5 rated it as very good, and 2 rated it as good. One evaluator noted that it was “easy to seat restorations.” A dentist who said he would definitely recommend and purchase the system said, “After curing… it gives a beautiful ‘contact lens’ effect.”

The ability to use DUO-LINK SE with a variety of indirect restorative materials was rated as excellent by 8 evaluators and as very good by 4. One dentist cited versatility as the feature he liked most and another “enjoyed the variety of applications.”

Ease of Use

Ease of use of DUO-LINK SE was rated as excellent by 5 evaluators, as very good by 5, and as good to fair by 2. The delivery system was rated as excellent by 6 dentists, as very good by 4, and as good to fair by 2. Four evaluators cited ease of use, insertion, or delivery as their favorite feature. Three dentists reported difficulty with cleanup.

Handling

DUO-LINK is a 70% filled composite with glass fillers of an average particle size of 1 μm, giving it high strength and low solubility. Handling was rated as excellent by 5 evaluators, as very good by 5, and as fair by 2. A dentist who said he thought it set up too fast, went on to say that he would definitely recommend the system. An evaluator, who rated every feature as excellent, reported that it “handled better than I expected.” A Denver dentist said, “I loved the consistency and the dispensing of the cement.”

Overall Satisfaction

Nine evaluators said they would definitely or probably recommend DUOLINK SE to colleagues, and 8 would definitely or probably purchase it. Overall satisfaction was rated as excellent by 4 evaluators, as very good by 6, and as good by 2. “I don’t believe the clinical features could be changed to make this even more clinically friendly than it is now,” said a general dentist in practice for 33 years. A New York dentist with 31 years of experience said, “Great product from a great company…easy to use with great results.”
