Endo-Eze TiLOS Instruments and Hand Files

Ultradent Products

The Endo-Eze TiLOS file system combines strength and flexibility for safe, efficient, and predictable results.

Ultradent describes Endo-Eze TiLOS as a hybrid file system that combines stainless steel and nickel-titanium (NiTi) files, to provide the best features of step-back and crown-down instrumentation in a reciprocating motion.

From a list of about 40 users of Ultradent’s Endo-Eze system, we randomly chose 8 to participate in this evaluation. Four of the evaluators have been using Endo-Eze AET for 1 to 3 years, 2 have been using TiLOS for 6 months to 1 year, and 2 have been using TiLOS for less than 6 months. The evaluators rated and commented on such features as cutting efficiency, file flexibility, instructions and packaging, and safety of the files.

Cutting Efficiency

According to the manufacturer, TiLOS files offer safe, efficient, and predictable results. The engine-driven stainless steel shaping files and NiTi apical files have been optimized for use with Ultradent’s 30º reciprocating handpiece for effective instrumentation.

When asked to rate the cutting efficiency of TiLOS, 5 dentists rated the product as excellent and 3 rated it as very good. Several evaluators named cutting efficiency as one of the things they like best about TiLOS. One of these evaluators, who has been in practice for 30 years, said, “The efficiency in instrumentation is great.” Another evaluator said, “Back and forth seems to clean canals very well as compared to only rotary.” Two evaluators noted that they would like to see an increase in the taper sizes.

File Flexibility

Ultradent states that the Endo-Eze TiLOS file system brings together the metal best suited for files in specific areas of the root canal, using the safest and most effective mechanical movement. The system uses a cleaning and shaping hybridization technique that includes technology and speed of the biomechanical systems while also taking advantage of the intuitive, traditional nature of hand instrumentation.

Four evaluators rated flexibility of the TiLOS files as excellent and 4 rated it as very good. All of the evaluators said that file flexibility is a very important feature when considering the purchase of an endodontic file system.

Instructions and Packaging

The TiLOS file system is available in pre-configured patient packs, apical finishing packs, and refill packs. The autoclavable patient packs include a built-in measurement device, a stabilizing easel stand, and an Endo Stop dispenser in the lid. In addition, the files can be sterilized up to 4 times.

When asked to rate the packaging of TiLOS, 6 rated it as excellent and 2 rated it as very good. With regard to instructions for use, 6 rated it as excellent and 2 rated it as very good. An evaluator from Omaha, NE, said, “It is very reasonably priced and is an excellent all-in-one combo.”

File Safety

The technology behind TiLOS reduces the influence of anatomical variations, pathological conditions, and complications such as ledging, zipping, canal transportation, unnecessary tooth structure removal, and file separation.

Six evaluators rated file safety as excellent, 1 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. An evaluator from St. Petersburg, FL, who has been in practice for 10 years, named safety of the files as his favorite feature and said, “With other rotary systems, I would separate a file every 6 months or so.” He went on to say, “I also appreciate the conservative preparation, and yet I feel like it does a better job of cleaning the canal than the more aggressive rotary systems.”

Overall Satisfaction

When asked to compare TiLOS to other similar file systems, all of the evaluators called it much or somewhat better. At the end of the evaluation, the dentists who participated were asked to give their overall satisfaction rating of TiLOS. Four evaluators rated it as excellent and 4 rated it as very good.

One evaluator said that TiLOS “provides an excellent canal shape without compromising root thickness at the junction with the pulp chamber.” Another evaluator, who has been using the system for 1 to 3 years, said, “This is the best reciprocating system on the market...This is a very solid product.”
