Fuji Temp LT Glass Ionomer Provisional and Implant Cement
GC America
A reliable, durable, and versatile glass ionomer provisional luting cement that combines the benefits of glass ionomer technology with increased fluoride release.
GC America describes Fuji Temp LT as the first glass ionomer provisional luting cement that is versatile, reliable, durable, and easy to use. The material is indicated for provisional cementation of traditional and implantsupported crowns and bridges and for short-term provisional cementation of temporaries.
Fuji Temp LT can continually recharge fluoride, providing more than 1600 μg/cm2 over 30 days. In addition, the manufacturer states that Fuji Temp LT protects against microleakage and reduces dentin sensitivity that can result from exposed margins.
Twelve dentists participated in this evaluation of Fuji Temp LT, using it in their practices for about 4 weeks. They rated and commented several features of the material, including ease of placement, fit and retention, and ease of clean up.
Ease of Placement
According to GC America, the low film thickness (6 μm) of Fuji Temp LT makes for easy seating and no running or dripping. In addition, because of the material’s moisture tolerance and hydrophilicity, placement is easy and predictable.
When asked to rate ease of placing Fuji Temp LT, 7 evaluators rated it as excellent and 5 rated it as very good. Seven evaluators listed ease of placement and/or film thickness as their favorite product feature.
An evaluator from Los Angeles, CA with 8 years of experience said, “It is very easy to work with and gives you a good amount or working time before it sets. It has good consistency.”
Fit and Retention
When asked to rate the fit of the temporaries they placed using Fuji Temp LT, 10 evaluators rated the fit as excellent and 2 rated it as very good. With regard to retention, 5 evaluators rated the material as excellent, 4 rated it as very good, and 1 each rated it as good to poor.
An evaluator who gave retention a rating of fair but gave Fuji Temp LT an overall rating of very good named retention as something he would like to see improved, saying, “The cement is too soft.”
Several other evaluators listed retention as one of the things they like best about the product. One of these evaluators, who has a practice in Brookyn, NY, called Fuji Temp LT “Very strong. I didn’t have to worry about a dislodged temp.”
Ease of Clean Up
The instructions for use state that Fuji Temp LT can be removed about 1 minute after seating. According to the manufacturer, excess material is easily removed from around the margins. In addition, because of its radiopacity, excess cement adjacent to periodontal tissue shows up easily on radiographs.
Six evaluators rated ease of clean up as excellent, 3 rated it as very good, 1 rated it as good, and 2 rated it as fair. An evaluator who has been in practice for 6 years said, “It is the easiest temporary cement to clean up.” This same evaluator called Fuji Temp LT much better than other similar products and said he would definitely purchase it in the future and recommend it to colleagues.
Overall Satisfaction
When asked if they would recommend Fuji Temp LT to their colleagues, 11 evaluators said definitely or probably. Ten evaluators said they would definitely or probably purchase it in the future.
At the end of the evaluation, the evaluators were asked to give their overall satisfaction rating for Fuji Temp LT. Five evaluators gave an overall satisfaction rating of excellent, 5 rated it as very good, 1 rated it as fair, and 1 rated it as poor. One evaluator called Fuji Temp LT “a great temp cement that is well worth the price.” An evaluator from Medford, NJ, called it “The temp cement I have been waiting for… easy clean up, great retention, fluoride release…what’s not to like?”
