 Time is of the Essence
When the 7 dentists who evaluated G-Cem were asked about the importance of setting time and working time when choosing a self-adhesive resin cement, 6 evaluators rated working time as important to very important (1 was neutral on the subject) and 5 rated setting time as important to very important (2 said they were neutral). When the evaluators then were asked to rate G-Cem on working and setting times, they rated it as excellent to very good.
Uniformity and Viscosity
The evaluators were asked to rate the uniformity of mix and the viscosity of G-Cem selfadhesive resin cement. Both of these evaluation items received high marks from the dentists. Six evaluators rated uniformity of mix as very good to excellent; 1 rated it as good. For viscosity, 5 rated G-Cem very good to excellent and 2 rated it as good. One evaluator commented that they prefer cement that is “slightly more viscous,” but they went on to say that was a “personal preference with little known clinical significance.”
Shade Selection
GC America claims that G-Cem’s high-esthetic quality provides good color stability and resistance to external stains. When the dentist evaluators were asked to rate the product’s shade selection, they said its 4 color options—A03, A2, Translucent, and B01—were excellent to very good. One evaluator said, “The variety of shades came in handy with translucent…porcelain crowns.”
Product Uses
The manufacturer states that GCem can be used with a variety of restorations, including metal and porcelain- fused-to-metal crowns, bridges, inlays, and onlays; all-ceramic and composite crowns, bridges, inlays, and onlays; and prefabricated metal, fiberglass, and ceramic endodontic posts. The dentists who evaluated G-Cem said they used the product with porcelain crowns, crowns with metal copings, and endodontic posts.
Product Instructions
According to GC America, G-Cem’s modern capsule design guarantees that the product is simple and easy to use. The steps in the application process are as follows:
- To activate, tap the capsule and push in the plunger.
- Place the capsule in GC Applier (included with the trial and starter kits) and click once.
- Triturate for 10 seconds
- Dispense into the crown.
- Seat the crown and then light cure
- Remove excess material.
When asked about instructions for applying G-Cem, 5 evaluators rated them as very good; 1 said they were excellent, and 1 said they were good.
Overall Satisfaction
When asked if they would recommend G-Cem self-adhesive resin cement to their colleagues, the evaluators said probably or definitely. The majority also said they would definitely or probably purchase it in the future. The evaluators were very satisfied with the overall performance of the product, giving it good to excellent ratings. One evaluator commented that they “loved the capsule mix system, [with] no slab and spatula to clean.”
