Product Review
Jazz C2S is a 2-step system
for composites, while C1S is a 1-step system for a
single patient. Both P3S and P2S are porcelain and
metal polishing systems; P3S is a 3-step system and
P2S is a 2-step, single-patient system.
According to SS White, Jazz Supreme can be used
on all direct composite restorations, eliminating the
need to match polishing systems with specific materials.
The system can be used with nanofilled, microfilled,
and macrofilled composites.
Ease of Use
According to the manufacturer, Jazz Supreme
allows the dentist to create a reflective gloss in 1
step, eliminating the need to use standard 2- or 3-
step systems. This reduction in steps, says SS White,
can increase chairtime efficiency.
When the 8 dentist evaluators were asked to rate
the Jazz Supreme polishing system on its ease of use,
6 rated it as excellent and 2 rated it as very good. One
evaluator said that he liked that the system requires
only 1 step. Another evaluator said that the many
shapes “make ease of use very good.”
Speed of Polish
When the evaluators were asked about the importance
of speed of polish when choosing a polishing
system, 4 said it is very important and 4 said it is
important. The evaluators were then asked to rate the
speed of polish of the Jazz Supreme system. Seven of
the evaluators rated it as excellent to very good, while
1 evaluator rated it as poor. The evaluator who gave
the system a poor rating said that he “never got a
great polish.” However, the remaining 7 evaluators
were pleased with the speed of polish,
with 1 of them commenting that the system
is “pretty quick.”
Shine
According to SS White, the Jazz
Supreme polishers were designed with a
breakthrough technology that produces
the highest shine possible. This technology
uses a proprietary combination of
diamond particles infused within a synthetic
rubber matrix.
When the evaluators were asked to
rate the system on shine, 7 rated it as
excellent to good and 1 rated it as poor.
One evaluator said that he found the
system created a layer of smearing.
Another evaluator said, “We love it for
posteriors and some anteriors.” This
evaluator went on to say that he found
he needed to use a little diamond paste
for some anteriors.
Instructions
SS White says that speed and pressure
dictate what the Jazz Supreme polishers
will do. The manufacturer recommends
5000 rpm to 10,000 rpm. To shape and
prepolish composites, increase the pressure
and speed of the polishers. To create
a high, deep glossy shine, decrease the
speed and pressure. All of the evaluators
rated the system’s instructions excellent
to good.
Overall Satisfaction
The evaluators were asked to compare
the Jazz Supreme polishing system
with similar systems. Five evaluators
said that the Jazz Supreme system is
much or somewhat better than other
systems, 1 said it was about the same,
and 1 said it was worse. When asked if
they would recommend the system to
colleagues or purchase it for themselves
in the future, 6 said definitely or probably,
while the other 2 said they weren’t
sure or would not.
At the end of the evaluation, the
dentists were asked to give their overall
satisfaction rating for the Jazz Supreme
polishing system. Six rated it as excellent
to very good, 1 rated it as fair, and
1 rated it as poor. One evaluator commented,
“We love the system.”
