Ease of Use: Programmability and Pre-Sets
Six of the 11 dentists who evaluated NuTorque rated system programmability as excellent, 4 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as fair. Two dentists with a combined 44 years of experience called it “userfriendly”— 1 said it was “easy to change settings while working on the same patient” and the other called it “simple…up and running within 10 minutes.”
Appropriateness of procedure pre-sets was rated as excellent by 5 evaluators, as very good by 5, and as good by 1. One prosthodontist called them “extremely intuitive…great and easy to change.” One general practice dentist said the pre-sets “should be more userfriendly,” while an endodontist called them “very good...they were there for both restorative and endodontic procedures.” Another general dentist, who has been practicing since 1996, said the pre-sets “help greatly in making changes fast…I didn’t program a lot because the pre-sets have been great.”
Motor and Attachments
According to the manufacturer, the light weight of the handpiece and titanium housings minimizes fatigue while providing exceptional balance and a firm, tactile grip. Ease of use of the motor and attachments was rated as excellent by 8 evaluators, as very good by 2, and as poor by 1. When asked about motor/attachment size and balance, 6 evaluators rated it as excellent, 3 as very good, 1 as good, and 1 as poor. Comments ranged from “rear delivery was cumbersome” to “exceptional ease of use…powerful motor and attachments worked well.”
An Orange, CA dentist called the unit “a bit heavy…but better than mine.” Another dentist said, “My hand felt it after a few days and I had to switch…more the larger size than the weight, which wasn’t bad at all.”
A general practitioner said the motor and pieces “worked well together and were well balanced.” Two other evaluators commented on the reduced head size. One of them, a Kingston, NY dentist, said, “The small attachment is small enough to get as far as the third molar region with same strength as the regular attachments.”
Endodontic Features
Five evaluators rated NuTorque’s endodontic features. Both the effectiveness and the value of the auto-reverse features were rated as excellent by 1 evaluator and as very good to good by 4. A general practice dentist called autoreverse “good for endodontics,” and an endodontist called it “great for endodontics and for curved or calcified canals… minimizes instrument separation.”
Overall Satisfaction
NuTorque’s range of versatility was rated as excellent by 7 evaluators, and as very good or good by 4. One dentist “used it for endo access, crown preparation, denture adjustment, and fillings—all in the same day.” Six evaluators commented on the handpiece’s low noise levels; 1 called it “an incredible feature for patients who dread the drill sound.” Overall satisfaction was rated as excellent to very good by 8 evaluators and as good to fair by 3.
