Discus Dental’s Relief ACP Oral Care Gel
combines potassium nitrate and fluoride
with amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP)
to reduce sensitivity, rebuild enamel, improve luster,
and help reduce caries. ACP is a chemical precursor
to natural hydroxyapatite minerals that are found in
teeth. The gel’s ACP rebuilds enamel by creating a
new coating of hydroxyapatite over the original tooth
surface while its fluoride enhances remineralization.
Ease of Use
When the 6 hygienist evaluators were asked about the importance of ease of use when purchasing an oral care gel, 5 said it was very important and 1 said it was important. When the evaluators were asked to rate Relief ACP on ease of use, they rated it excellent to very good. One evaluator commented that the product was “easy for patients to apply with a limited margin for error.” Another said, “Everyone who tried this, including myself, really like the tubes and how easy it was to use.”

Patient Compliance
According to Discus Dental, for
patients with different needs, Relief
ACP is available in either a starter kit
(syringes with tray material) or a refill
kit (syringes only). Patients can apply
the gel directly into the tray for maximum
coverage, or by using a standard
soft-bristle toothbrush.
When the evaluators were asked to
rate Relief ACP on patient compliance,
the product received excellent to good
ratings. One evaluator noted that their
“patients were excited about this product
and were eager to follow the directions.”
Another hygienist said that overall
patient compliance was “very good.
[Relief ACP] was easy to use and tasted
good so the compliance was easy.”
Instructions
The hygienists who evaluated Relief
ACP found the product use instructions
to be excellent to good. “The written
instructions were easy to read and understand Just about anyone could use this,” said 1 of the evaluators. “The instructions were easy to follow,” said another.
Overall Effectiveness for Patients
Again the evaluators gave Relief ACP good to excellent ratings for overall effectiveness. One hygienist said, “We felt that [Relief ACP] did help with the sensitivity to bleaching and also to cold because of gum recession.” A second hygienist said that her patients received “very effective results.”
