SonicFill by Kerr

Kerr’s SonicFill system offers bulk-fill convenience with strength and speed.

SonicFill is a unique time-saving system that provides clinicians with a fast, efficient, and simple method to bulk fill posterior cavities without compromising quality. Made of a specially designed handpiece and new composite material, sonic activation of the composite dramatically lowers the viscosity to make placement fast and easy. Dentists can now go from placement to a polished restoration in less than 3 minutes, making a tedious procedure simple and more profitable.

The SonicFill system offers the clinician true bulk fill, with a unidose tip that fills up to a 5-mm cavity in a single increment, requiring no additional high viscosity capping layer. This unique tip design also permits easy, voidless placement in challenging posterior areas, and efficient curing characteristics ensure optimal, full 5-mm depth of cure in 20 seconds.

Sonic activation lowers the composite viscosity for easy adaptation, and after placement, the composite returns to a nonslumping, sculptable state. The handling is creamy and nonsticky, which makes establishing margins and contouring occlusal anatomy fast and efficient. A highly filled composite ensures superior strength and outstanding mechanical properties for posterior restorations. —Bob Alaburda

Couldn't be easier May 12, 2013

The handpiece delivery of Sonicfill makes posterior composite fillings very easy... step on the pedal and composite is vibrated out, into the cavity prep. It's bulk fill property means 1-3 increments for me, but that is much easier and faster than the many small increments I used to place with paste composites.

even though long term studies are only about 3 yrs, i have seen good results in my office so far. bulk fill allows large restorations to be restored quicker which decrease chances of contamination and isolation issues.

the composite flows easily like a flowable but once in the prep, you can mold like a packable composite. settings allow you to choose how quickly you want the composite to flow

inital results look good clinically & on bitewings, will see how the long term pans out.

Product itself handles well as advertised. Very simple and efficient. The only gripe I would have is that some of the compules don't screw in easily to the handpiece....maybe they're stripped, etc? Had a few like that unfortunately.

Time saving product April 30, 2013

This product has great consistency and handling properties for a bulk fill composite. On xrays the radiopacity is great and this product can save you precious time when doing quadrant dentistry. The contacts tend to be good but you still need to place the appropriate wedges and matrix bands. The delivery system is also very good since the handpiece allows you to control the rate at which you want the composite to flow. The shades tend to match well although I do find them a little less esthetic looking then other composites. The only drawback I find with this product is its polishability. Still, I highly recommend this product.

SonicFill is the answer! April 30, 2013

SonicFill is an excellent posterior composite.
Pros: It exhibits bulk fill properties, ease of use, easy to handle, no voids are evident on x-rays, creates strong support for the remaining tooth structure, low shrinkage, outstanding strength and high 5mm depth of cure, cuts working time in half.

Cons: Initial high cost of buying a handpiece delivery system, high cost for composite cartridges, each cartridge lasts for 1-2 composite restorations, since cartridge require direct placement-not able to use on multiple patients, switching cartridges mid-procedure may cause contamination of working area.

Awesome product April 29, 2013

There are so many good composites on the market. I have tried many of them and I have been happy with many. So, why bother with this one? Kerr's Herculite composites have always been outstanding. It was a favorite of mine over 30 years ago. When it came out on top in a recent Clinician's Report study I decided to try it again.
The Sonic Fill system was getting great reviews from several of the clinicians I admire so it seemed like a great combination.
Personally I have used the system for nearly a year and have not been disappointed. The sonic delivery makes composite flow nicely into even very small Class II preps I do under the microscope. The shades blend very well, the surface is great, it polishes nicely when it is necessary to make adjustments.
I wondered if it would cure the depths claimed and I have still used a layering technique on deep restorations. When I tested it for depth of cure with my VALO light, I was getting cures at 5mm with all shades. For me,it has been competitive in cost.
It does cure rapidly and you have to be careful not to expose it to the overhead light. It also has limited shades. I have used it on Class III's and some anterior Class V's with great results. I still like to layer shades for anterior composite veneers and Class IV's so I use a different composite when I want to vary translucencies and shades. For posteriors it has been more than adequate.

Sonicfill truly makes posterior composites better April 29, 2013

I have been using Sonicfill for over a year now and have had great results. I haven't seen any increase in sensitivity. The marginal integrity is fantastic after over a year of placements. Bulk filling makes it so much easier to place and get void free fills. It flows well and is easy to condense without sticking. Color match is good for posterior restorations.
