Product Review

The manufacturer says that each feature of Take 1 Advanced rates as good as or better than any other VPS material on the market, and that the collective performance of these features exceeds that of competing products.

Detail and Precision of Impressions

In research conducted by Kerr, it was found that the chemistry of Take 1 Advanced creates a very wettable surface. Because the surface is so wettable, it breaks surface tension and displaces fluids in the oral cavity to capture detailed impressions with no voids or gaps.
When the 6 dentists who participated in this evaluation were asked to rate Take 1 Advanced on the detail and precision of the impressions they created, 3 rated it as excellent, 2 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. One evaluator described details captured in the preparation as “quite good.” Another said it was a “very readable material with good body and rigidity.” This evaluator went on to say that the “preparation details were easy to evaluate.” A third evaluator said, “Very nice sulcular flow for emergence profile detail.”

Flow and Mix Characteristics

When the evaluators were asked about the importance of flow and mix characteristics when purchasing impression material, all 6 rated them as important to very important. The evaluators were then asked to rate Take 1 Advanced on flow and mix characteristics. Three evaluators rated flow characteristics as excellent and 3 rated them as very good. One evaluator said, “Nice flow of material, perfect balance of viscosity of tray material, not too stiff yet not too runny.” Two other evaluators, who rated the flow characteristics as very good, found the light body to be runny. Take 1 Advanced offers an alternative syringe viscosity that is slightly more viscous than the light body material.
With regard to the mix characteristics of Take 1 Advanced, 5 evaluators rated the material as excellent and 1 rated it as good. One evaluator said, “Excellent mixing—I noted complete setting of all materials in every case.” Another evaluator said, “Both the mixing gun and the single-use syringes provided an excellent, consistent mix every time.”

Delivery Method

Take 1 Advanced is available in Unidose syringes, 50 mL cartridges and 362 mL Volume packs. According to Kerr, the Unidose syringes provide targeted delivery and eliminate concerns about cross-contamination.
When the evaluators were asked to rate the convenience of Take 1 Advanced delivery methods, 3 rated them as excellent and 3 rated them as very good. Each evaluator had a preference regarding the delivery method. One said, “I like the multi-dose cartridges better than the unit dose—less disposable plastic and easier to handle.” Another evaluator said that the Unidose syringes are “very easy to use, comfortable fit in the hand, and dispense well.” One evaluator had a suggestion with regard to the labeling of the products: “Clearly label the products as ‘heavy body,’ ‘medium body,’ or ‘light body.’ It seems like the labels required reading the instructions to know what was used for what. Anything to make things go faster in a dental office is always a plus, so more specific labeling would be my suggestion.”

Overall Satisfaction

When the evaluators were asked if they would recommend Take 1 Advanced to their dental colleagues, 3 said definitely and 3 said probably. The same response was given when the evaluators were asked if they would purchase this impression material in the future. Two evaluators gave an overall satisfaction rating of excellent for Take 1 Advanced, and 4 rated it as very good. One evaluator said, “Take 1 Advanced is a pleasure to use—easy to mix and place.”
