The TwinPower operates by air from the drive air
nozzles powering the primary impeller. The exhaust
air is then directed through fixed fins, which power
the secondary impeller. The result is that the handpiece
is more powerful and provides constant torque
and controlled speed, even under load.
Maneuverability and Visibility
having a compact head that enhances maneuverability
and provides superior access within the oral
cavity. The 15° angle of the handpiece allows the user
to easily maneuver throughout the patient’s mouth.
When the 8 dentists who participated in this evaluation
were asked to rate the TwinPower handpiece on
maneuverability and visibility, 6 rated it as excellent, 1
rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. One evaluator
said that he has used another handpiece for years,
but “[the TwinPower] is a much finer handpiece.”
Braking Ability
According to the manufacturer, the TwinPower
handpieces are equipped with a quick-stop ring for
safety during preparation. This rubber brake ring
makes it possible to stop the turbine within 2 seconds.
The evaluators were asked to rate the
TwinPower handpiece on its braking
ability. Six evaluators rated the braking
ability as excellent and 2 rated it as very
good. One evaluator noted that it “doesn’t
brake quite as fast as I expected, but
better than others.” Another evaluator
said, “The braking ability is instant and
helps me to keep control of the handpiece
during dental procedures.”
Suck Back
The manufacturer says that the Zero
Suck Back technology incorporated into
the TwinPower handpiece improves
infection control. The Anti Suck Back
Diffuser (ASBD) located in the handpiece
head pressurizes air through centrifugal
force. The air within the ASBD is prevented
from being depressurized, creating
what the manufacturer calls true zero
suck back. When the evaluators were
asked about the suck back into the air
line of the TwinPower handpiece, 7 rated
it as excellent and 1 rated it as good.
Noise Level of Handpiece
The TwinPower handpiece is de -
signed with advanced fluid dynamics to
reduce the high-pitch noise emitted by
many high-speed handpieces. The quieter
handpiece is intended to be more
comfortable for both patients and dental
professionals. When the evaluators
were asked to rate the handpiece on
noise level, 3 rated it as excellent, 3
rated it as very good, and 2 rated it as
good. One evaluator described the
handpiece as “noticeably quieter than
others.” A second evaluator said, “This
handpiece emits less noise than others.
Very good for phobic patients who hate
extreme noise and have had bad experiences
at the dentist.”
Ergonomics of Handpiece
According to J. Morita USA, the
compact and lightweight design of the
TwinPower handpiece makes it comfortable
to use, even for longer procedures.
It weighs 48 g, reducing hand, wrist, and
finger fatigue. The recently redesigned
handpiece grip allows the user to hold it
in a more relaxed manner.
The 8 evaluators were asked to rate
the ergonomics of the TwinPower handpiece.
Six evaluators rated it as excellent
and 2 rated it as very good. One evaluator
described it as “very light and comfortable
to hold.”
Overall Satisfaction
When the evaluators were asked to
compare the TwinPower handpiece to
other similar handpieces, 7 described it
as much or somewhat better. In addition,
all 8 evaluators said they would
definitely or probably recommend the
handpiece to their colleagues and purchase
it in the future.
When asked to give their overall satisfaction
rating for the TwinPower handpiece,
6 rated it as excellent and 2 rated
it as very good. One evaluator said that
the “J. Morita handpiece provides visibility
superior to other handpieces.”
