Uni-Grip 360 Universal Sensor Holder

DENTSPLY RINN

Uni-Grip 360 features adjustable bite-tabs that enable a full-mouth digital radiograph series with a single sensor holder.

DENTSPLY RINN introduces the Uni-Grip 360, a disposable universal sensor holder with adjustable bite-tabs that allow the clinician to take a full-mouth series with only 1 holder. The stiffer bite-tabs reduce flexing, and the new bottom adhesive tabs maximize stability. Patient comfort is enhanced by the less bulky (20% thinner) base, and patient protection is optimized by the single-use design.

Multi-Indication Positioning

The Uni-Grip 360 bite-tab can be rotated anywhere on the sensor base to achieve the desired indication, and it can extend past the edge of the holder’s base to the position that is ideal for the sensor’s active area. The holders also can be used with the Uni-GripAR 3-in-1 arm and ring positioning system for even more accurate positioning.

The 11 dentists who participated in the evaluation rated accurate positioning in all indications (anterior, posterior, horizontal, and vertical bitewings)— 4 rated this feature as excellent, 5 rated it as very good, and 2 rated it as good to fair. Speed of changing indications was rated as excellent by 2 dentists, as very good by 5, and as good by 4. One evaluator, calling the holders much better than similar products, suggested “a faster way to change indications.” Three dentists identified the “all-in-1 system” as the feature they liked most. One of these evaluators noted the “ease of changing positions,” calling it “a huge draw.” Another evaluator said, “There’s no need to change between many different components. One piece and you’re good to go!”

Ease of Use

Designed for easy application and removal, the Uni-Grip 360 is placed over the center of the sensor’s active area and the side and bottom tabs are wrapped tightly around the sensor, keeping it stable without the need for tight sensor covers (universal sensor covers are included). Perforated side labels make removal quick and easy.

Ease of application of the 4-tab label design was rated as excellent by 3 evaluators, as very good by 5, and as good to fair by 3. When asked about ease of removal, 3 dentists rated it as excellent, 4 rated it as very good, 1 rated it as good, and 2 rated it as fair to poor. Two evaluators found them difficult to place and 3 found them difficult to remove. One evaluator indicated that his staff did not like placing the sensor holders, but that after he set them up, “my team liked them and found them easy to manipulate and images easy to capture.” One of the 2 evaluators who cited “some kinks” that need to be worked out described it as “overall, a very smart design that needs a few tweaks to make it perfect,” adding, “it’s very easy once you learn the system.”

Some evaluators noted that the sensor holders would sometimes move. One of these evaluators said, “The bitetab moves out of position on occasion when the patient bites down.” Another evaluator cited “staying in place when changing positions on the tab” as the feature he liked most. Another said, “The sticky arm ensures that the sensor is held tightly in place…great product!”

Ease of Capture

The Uni-Grip 360 facilitates capture of the desired anatomy with 70% more positioning range in posterior indications and 25% more in anterior indications. Ease of capture was rated as excellent by 3 evaluators, as very good by 7, and as fair by 1. A Utah dentist in practice for 26 years cited “ease of capturing the correct angle and alignment” as his favorite feature, and a New Jersey dentist with 35 years of experience reported being able to “capture the entire image accurately.” The dentist went on to say “it was easy to position and I liked the rotation of the tab for all applications.” Another evaluator said the holders “let us capture portions of the surrounding anatomy by easily altering the position of the sensor to the ‘nontraditional’ desired position.”

Overall Satisfaction

Overall satisfaction with the Uni-Grip 360 was rated as excellent by 3 evaluators, as very good by 4, as good by 3, and as fair by 1. Nine evaluators called it much or somewhat better than similar products. One dentist said “the size made it more comfortable and easier for patients to hold in place,” and another noted, “my staff, especially the hygienist, loved using them.” An Oklahoma dentist called it “a great concept,” and an Ohio evaluator called it “an all-in-1 system that can be easily adapted to fit the desired area.”
