ColoriseDual Arch Impression System Zhermack’s Colorise Dual Arch Impression System combines patented color-change technology with 3-in-1 impression capability. Zhermack’s Colorise Dual Arch Impression System allows the dentist to use a single impression to obtain the detailed preparation, the opposing arch, and the occlusal registration. According to the manufacturer, this not only saves time and materials, but also ensures highly accurate results in prosthetic cases with limited dentition. ![]() |

Ease of use Cons:
Inconsistent clarity/lack of The system features Zhermack’s Colorise VPS impression material, formulated with a patented chromatine technology that produces a color change when the light-body reaches the end of working time and when Colorise Rigid has set completely. The system consists of Colorise Rigid, Colorise Light, and the Hi-Tray Light Dual Arch impression tray. Ease of Use The 10 dentists who evaluated the Colorise Dual Arch Impression System rated overall ease of use as well as Colorise’s rigidity when set in the dual-arch tray. Ease of use was rated as excellent by 5 evaluators and as very good by 5. One evaluator said the material “mixed well and had no striation of color when exiting the tip.” When asked about rigidity, 1 evaluator said, “My lab tech had no problem working with it.” Another evaluator said the tray material “set up very rigid and set quickly—a plus.” This feature was rated as excellent by 4 evaluators, as very good to good by 5, and as fair by 1. Flow and Hydrophilic Characteristics When asked to evaluate flow characteristics (under pressure and coverage), 4 evaluators rated the Colorise System as excellent, 4 rated it as very good, and 2 rated it as good. Two evaluators said the light body was “a little too thick” or “too viscous” and 1 evaluator described the flow component as “almost too ‘flowable’—a little difficult for a maxillary impression.” Another evaluator said, “The heavy body displaced the light a little too much. I’m used to seeing more light body against the prep.” Hydrophilic characteristics were rated as excellent by 3 evaluators, as very good by 6, and as good by 1. One evaluator said a moist environment “didn’t seem to displace the material,” another said the material “tolerates some moisture and flows well,” and a third called it “quick and easy.” Impression Detail and Precision Detail and precision of impressions made with the Colorise System were rated as excellent by 2 evaluators, as very good by 5, and as good by 3. One evaluator reported “inconsistent clarity” and another said impressions were “sometimes hard to read due to lack of color contrast in the material.” The evaluator who “felt like margins weren’t as crisp as those obtained with [his current material] and the light green made reading margins a little difficult…needs to be a bit shinier” also said the light body “needs to be darker.” One evaluator reported “great margin impressions” and another said, “The colors make it easy to read the margins.” Nine dentists evaluated occlusal and opposite arch impressions; 4 rated them as excellent, 3 rated them as very good, and 2 rated them as good. The dentist who called them “very clear” reported “a tear in only 2 or 3 impressions” and another evaluator said the material “tears more easily than other products.” Overall Satisfaction The clear plastic of the Hi-Tray Light Dual Arch impression tray facilitates visualization of the color change in the Colorise material. The colorchange feature was rated as excellent by 5 evaluators, as good by 2, and as fair by 3. One evaluator “didn’t notice a dramatic change,” another thought the change “needs to be more drastic,” and 2 evaluators didn’t see the need for this feature. One dentist said the color change “made it easy to time” and another said there is “no guessing when the material is ready.” Overall satisfaction was rated as excellent by 2 evaluators, as very good by 3, and as good by 5. |
