  • • Simplifies restorative procedures by adapting to self-, total-, and selective-etch techniques.
    • Allows for easy cementation of even tight-fitting crowns with its low film thickness.

One-Bottle Etch/Prime/Bond for Direct and Indirect Restorations

Although the word universal is overused and, more often than not misused, BISCO may not be overstating things by naming its newest bonding system ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL. Among the definitions Merriam-Websters offers, universal means comprehensively broad and versatile and adapted and adjustable to meet varied requirements. And thats a good description of ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL.

ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL is a lightcured, single-component dental bonding agent that combines etching, priming, and bonding in a single bottle. It is an ethanol/water-based agent that bonds to dentin and to cut and uncut enamel, and it is fully compatible with light-cured, self-cured, and dual-cured composite materials. It can be used for the total-etch, self-etch, and selective-etch bonding of both direct (resin-based composite, resinmodified glass ionomers, core build-ups, etc.) and indirect (metal, glass ceramics, orconia/alumina, etc.) restorations, with or without phosphoric acid etchant.

Other applications include desensitization/sealing, intraoral repair (chipped porcelain, additions to direct restorations, etc.), and as a protective varnish for glass ionomer restorations.

Forgiving and Convenient
Other than the wide range of indications and technique choices, I have a few personal favorite features that have been beneficial to my practice. ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL has a low film thickness—less than 10 ?m—so it does not affect cementation procedures, even with tightfitting crowns. If there is no enamel present, I do not etch, and just place a few coats on the preparation, remove the solvent by air thinning, and use either a light-cured or dual-cured resin cement.

For direct composite restorations, I will etch the enamel and place my resin. In terms of convenience, I can store ALLBOND UNIVERSAL at room temperature without refrigeration, and I do not need an additional activator. However, if I need to use a selective etch/hybrid technique, BISCO offers a separate highviscosity phosphoric acid etch: Select HV Etch with BAC. Overall, ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL has worked quite well with no postoperative sensitivity.

Based on Trusted Research

There are some important chemistry features that make ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL so versatile. Briefly, it contains MDP monomers (for a strong and durable bond to indirect materials), has an acidic pH of >3 (for compatibility with dual- and self-cured composite cores and resin cements), and is hydrophobically resin-friendly (optimizing the seal and reducing postoperative sensitivity).

I have always been a total-etch advocate and will etch enamel if it is present, but ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL has worked well in my practice for the cases when there is no enamel present and I want to achieve a high bond strength to dentin. My own preliminary dentin bonding tests done with Dr.Marcos Vargas have demonstrated excellent bond strengths to dentin. I have always been very slow to jump on the all-in-one bandwagon of adhesives, but I do trust BISCO in making products that produce excellent clinical results.
