Product Spotlight: ProMax 3D Classic
ProMax 3D provides greatly reduced patient radiation dose without reducing diagnostic quality.
You don’t have to choose between safety and image quality. The Planmeca ProMax 3D Classic cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) unit is designed to provide you with the high-quality images you need for diagnosis and treatment planning while maintaining a lower exposure of radiation than panoramic imaging.
The Science Behind Ultra Low Dose
While all dental professionals want to follow the ALADA rule (as low as diagnostically acceptable), there exists the concern that if you go too low in the radiation dose, you may compromise image quality, resulting in unacceptable treatment outcomes.
A study by Dr. JB Ludlow of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, examined the use of a low dose CBCT protocol that involves reduced exposure and Planmeca’s proprietary reconstruction Ultra Low Dose (ULD).* The study’s conclusion: An average reduction in dose of 77% was achieved using ULD protocols when compared with standard protocols. This dose reduction did not result in a statistical reduction in image quality.
Robert K. Klein, DDS, who uses the ProMax 3D Classic at his practice in Highland, MO, says, “I don’t see any decline in image quality using the Ultra Low Dose protocol.”
One Unit, Multiple Applications
In addition to 3D imaging, the ProMax 3D Classic is versatile enough to also offer panoramic, extraoral bitewing, and cephalometric imaging, and is suresmile certified. When clinicians combine the 3 types of 3D imaging using Planmeca’s Romexis software, they create a virtual patient in 3D, aiding them in diagnosis, treatment planning, patient education, and case presentation.
“Romexis allows me to show patients their bone and where implants will be placed,” explains Dr. Klein. “Patients like seeing the implants virtually placed.”
Dr. Klein’s experience with Planmeca and the Promax 3D Classic has had a huge impact on his practice. “I now place more than 300 implants a year and use the ProMax 3D Classic for all of them,” says Dr. Klein.
