Every rose really does have its thorn. That’s what Poison drummer Rikki Rockett is probably thinking as he battles oral cancer that's been linked to HPV.
According to the New York Daily News, the 54-year-old rocker says he's been fighting the disease since June, and that his case is considered “very treatable.” However, during treatment, he had mouth sores so painful that he couldn’t even drink water and said his mouth felt like “if you could take your throat and turn it inside out and sunburn it.”
Rockett said he contracted the disease from the Human papillomavirus (HPV) — which also caused oral cancer for actor Michael Douglas and fellow musicians Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) and Tom Hamilton (Aerosmith). Throughout his agonizing recovery, Rockett has managed to keep a positive outlook and says his cancer appears to be in remission.
Doctors say he has an excellent chance of recovery, giving Rockett truly “Something to Believe In.”
