It’s always nice when a big company not only looks out for the underserved, but also points out when others are doing the same. That’s what Henry Schein Inc. has done with the creation of the Henry Schein Cares Medal, which will be awarded annually to organizations that demonstrate excellence in expanding access to care.
The award is part of the Henry Schein Cares global corporate social responsibility program, which allows the company to use its resources to support health care professionals around the world who provide care for those who would otherwise receive little or no medical attention.
Nine finalists will be selected among applicants from the field of oral health, animal health, and medical health. Among those finalists, a medalist will be selected from each field for a total of 3 medalists. Each of the 9 finalists will receive $10,000 worth of product from Henry Schein Inc. for their charitable work, while 3 medalists will receive an additional $15,000 in cash from the Henry Schein Cares Foundation Inc. to support their work.
The finalists will be notified in January 2016 and celebrated at a gala event in New York City later in the year.
The nomination period began August 17, and will remain open until November 1, 2015. To be considered a candidate for this award, applicants must be a non-profit organization or trust that is tax-exempt under IRS Section 501 (c)(3), and a public charity.
Henry Schein Inc. provides health care products and services to office-based dental, animal health, and medical practitioners. The company also services dental laboratories, government and institutional health care clinics, and other alternate care sites.
