Build-It Light Cure provides strong, reliable foundations for indirect restorations in a light-cure-only formulation.
New from Pentron Clinical, Build-It Light Cure is formulated specifically for the practitioner who desires a light-cure-only core build-up material. Once cured, the material performs just like Pentron's original Build-It FR, setting to a rock-hard consistency for an exceptionally strong and reliable foundation for indirect restorations.
Thirteen dentists, with years of experience ranging from 2 to 41, participated in this Dental Product Shopper evaluation of Build-It Light Cure. They rated and commented on such features as cuttability, handling, depth of cure, and immediate hardness.
Build-It Light Cure is formulated to cut like dentin without ditching. When asked about the importance of cuttability when choosing a core build-up material, 10 evaluators said it is very important and 2 said it is important. The evaluators were then asked to rated the cuttability of Build-It Light Cure. Two evaluators rated it as excellent, 9 rated it as very good, and 2 rated it as good. A Texas dentist with a cosmetic and general practice said it was 'very close to dentin and makes for a good cutting surface.' Another evaluator noted that 'cuttability was close to dentin and much better than my [current material]'
Ease of Use
According to the manufacturer, Build-It Light Cure features a proprietary Bis-GMA-free resin for non-sticky, sculptable handling that enables quick and easy adaption to tooth structure. Handling was rated as excellent by 3 evaluators, as very good by 6, as good by 1, as fair by 2, and as poor by 1. One evaluator found the material 'hard to mold and shape.' Another evaluator called Build-It Light Cure 'an excellent product if it's important to place it directly.' One dentist who tested the auto-mix cartridges found the compules 'difficult to load.' One evaluator said he 'liked the compules but you have to pack hard onto the tooth to get it to stick.' Another dentist called it 'easy to work with,' adding that the compules 'are very easy to pack in layers.'
Curing (Hardness and Bond Strength)
With only 20 seconds of curing time per surface, Build-It Light Cure cures to a depth of 10 mm without the need for layering. The posts are made possible by Pentron's new BisGMA-free resin. The evaluators were asked about the importance of depth of cure when choosing a core build-up material. Eleven evaluators said depth of cure is very important.
Depth of cure was rated as excellent by 4 evaluators, as very good by 7, and as good by 2. An Anaheim, CA dentist noted that it 'cures easily to the end of the preparation.'
When asked about immediate hardness, 4 evaluators rated it as excellent, 6 rated it as very good, and 3 rated it as good. Of the 11 dentists who evaluated immediate bond strength, 4 rated it as excellent, 6 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. A Texas dentist with a large private practice noted that it 'stayed in place during preparation,' and a California dentist in practice for 8 years said it 'bonds very well'cuts just as hard as dentin'no ditching the prep.' An Ohio dentist with 33 years of experience reported 'good strength when cutting from the tooth to build-up or vice versa.'
Of the 13 dentists who evaluated Build-It Light Cure, 10 said they would definitely or probably recommend the product to their colleagues. When asked about their overall satisfaction with the material, 2 evaluators rated the product as excellent, 7 rated it as very good, 3 rated it as good, and 1 rated it as fair. One evaluator noted that it was 'great to be able to place a core material in and prep the core knowing it will be set now and 1 week later.' A general practitioner from Anaheim called it 'the best core material I've used. It cuts just like dentin.'
