Moist SURE Foaming Hand Sanitizer
Moist SURE foaming hand sanitizer provides lasting antimicrobial activity without drying the skin.
In its latest version, the “CDC’s Hand Hygiene Guideline” stresses the need for adherence to proper hand hygiene in healthcare settings and outlines the benefits of alcohol-based products, especially for use before surgical procedures.1 Sultan Healthcare’s new Moist SURE effectively sanitizes hands while soothing and moisturizing the skin. The ethyl alcohol-based (62%) foaming sanitizer provides the same level of protection provided by 4% chlorhexidine gluconate (and is chlorhexidine gluconate-compatible) but with the soothing feel of a lotion.
Designed exclusively for dental and medical practices, Moist SURE meets FDA standards as a surgical scrub and meets the FDA’s proposed performance standards for healthcare personnel hand washes.
Moist SURE also comes in a liquid, and in a foaming soap and lotion soap. The foaming hand sanitizer comes in 2.2-ounce and 9-ounce cans; the 9- ounce can comes with a wall bracket for mounting.
Feel on the Hands
Unlike other alcohol-based sanitizers, Moist SURE doesn’t dry skin and actually keeps skin hydrated for up to 2 hours. The group of 10 dentists and hygienists who evaluated Moist SURE Foaming Hand Sanitizer rated the feel of the sanitizer on their hands—9 as excellent and 1 as good. Ease of donning gloves after use was rated as excellent by 7 evaluators and as very good to good by 3, and prevention of skin dryness was rated as excellent by 6 evaluators, as very good by 3, and as good by 1.
Two evaluators cited “non-drying of hands” as their favorite feature and 2 others cited its lack of stickiness, noting that it “leaves hands feeling good...moist but not sticky.” Two evaluators noted its quick-drying feature, adding that it “has a neutral smell and our staff isn’t allergic” and “it’s easy to put on gloves after use.” One evaluator said the foam “feels good and isn’t greasy,” and a dentist who rated all features as excellent said, “We really like the feel after using it, the quickness of drying, and the ease of glove use.”
Moist SURE is formulated to sanitize without drying, providing protection not available in a “store-bought” sanitizer. According to the manufacturer, it has rapid efficacy against antibiotic-resistant microorganisms, killing MRSA and VRE in only 5 seconds, and provides persistent antimicrobial activity for up to 6 hours.
Nine of the 10 evaluators rated product innovation—4 as excellent, 3 as very good, and 2 as good. Claims regarding Moist SURE’s germ-killing efficacy were rated as excellent by 5 evaluators, as very good by 4, and as good by 1. One dentist said he’d “buy and recommend it with independent confirmation that it actually kills bacteria.” Another dentist, who called it much better than similar products, noted that “patients still want to see their dentists wash their hands before treatment.” A Sandy, UT dentist who gave all features a rating of excellent, said, “We’re excited to have found such a great product with all the improvements over our old sanitizer.”
Ease of Use (Dispensing)
Moist SURE is formulated to be easy to use and less messy than other hand sanitizers.
Ease of dispensing was rated as excellent by 7 evaluators, as very good by 2, and as good by 1. One hygienist said the “bottle clogged” and a Fayetteville, NC dentist said “it would be nice if it didn’t have to be installed.” A dentist who cited ease of use/easy placement in the operatory as his favorite feature suggested making the dispensing lever “a little easier to pull.” A second evaluator made similar remarks, noting that the “pressure on the nozzle could be improved to reduce splatter.” Two evaluators, both of whom said they would definitely recommend and purchase Moist SURE, said the amount of product recommended for use (tennis ball-size) is “too much”; 1 of them added, “Aside from that, I loved it.”
Ten evaluators said they would definitely or probably recommend Moist SURE to colleagues and 8 said they would definitely or probably purchase it. Overall satisfaction was rated as excellent by 5 evaluators, as very good by 4, and as good by 1.
