Calling PANAVIA SA Cement Universal a great product that’s quick and easy to use, Dr. Petrova complimented the material’s single syringe dispensing method, no need for refrigeration, easy cleanup, and versatility. “I had a situation where I had limited time for cementing a crown and was excited to have this product handy,” she described. “Kuraray has great products, and this is another addition that is very simple to use every day and cuts down on many steps, making the entire cementation procedure so simple.”
Dispensing and HandlingAvailable in 3 shades—universal (A2), white, and translucent—PANAVIA SA Cement Universal is dispensed in convenient automix syringes or in economical handmix syringes. Dr. Michael Teitelbaum said the dual-barreled automix syringe was very convenient and “allows you to dispense exactly how much you want, where you want it.” Suggesting that the universal shade could be clearer, he added, “The endo tip makes cementing posts almost fun.” Dr. Ira Biderman favored the “ease of mixing and cleanup,” and Dr. Joseph O’Leary called it “easy to mix, with or without an assistant.” Dr. James Kakos suggested larger volume syringes. “PANAVIA has a good reputation for cements,” said Dr. Analia Keenan, who called it easy to handle. Dr. Teitelbaum noted, “The viscosity is thin enough to make seating easy and stress free.”
Efficiency of Workflow & Ease of CleanupTo simplify the workflow, PANAVIA SA Cement Universal is applied in one simple step, with no primer or etching required, and excess material is easy to clean up. The process saves time and makes procedures less stressful and more enjoyable for the patient and clinician. “By eliminating all the etching and bonding steps, this self-etching cement saves time and makes cementing easier,” described Dr. Teitelbaum. “I usually sandblast then etch every tooth before cementing, which causes irritated gums to bleed and takes lots of time. I can avoid all that and make my assistant and patient happier by using this cement,” he added.
“PANAVIA SA Cement Universal is a simple, universal cementation solution that’s easy to use and makes the procedure more efficient with fewer steps,” shared Dr. Marc Malatesta. Dr. Keenan said the simplified technique made for a quicker process and shorter appointment for her patients. Dr. Adriana Rodriguez stated, “I loved this product. It offers good adhesion, is easy to clean up, and no added steps are needed, giving you a lot of bang for your buck.” Calling it an excellent, easy-to-use material that provides a better bond with easier cleanup, Dr. Kakos declared, “It just makes things easier.”
When removing excess cement, Dr. Biderman said, “All cases were very easy to clean up,“ and Dr. Karen Burns said she was able to remove interproximal ce ment with ease. “The initial set on its own or with the help of a tack cure was not too stiff, allowing for easy cleanup,” shared Dr. William Simon.
Versatility and Bond StrengthIndicated for adhesion of crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, posts, and adhesion bridges, PANAVIA SA Cement Universal bonds to almost all materials and adheres to prosthetic restorations, making it a versatile universal resin cement. A unique LCSi monomer creates a strong chemical bond to porcelain, lithium disilicate, and composite resin, while the original MDP monomer bonds to enamel, dentin, metal alloy, and zirconia.
Calling the material “very versatile and convenient,” Alfred Bassin, DMD, shared, “I had to recement a crown with an attached post and core on an endodontically treated tooth with almost no retention.” After cementing with PANAVIA SA Cement Universal, he said the crown seems to be holding despite very poor prognosis. Dr. Alan Howard found the cement easy to use for different applications, especially for adhesion of crowns, bridges, and inlays. Dr. O’Leary said his patients reported no sensitivity after any of their procedures and added, “It’s nice to just have one cement to rely on.” Because of its dual-curing properties, Dr. Teitelbaum said, “It is fine for virtually any posterior restoration and most anteriors.”
Although long-term bond strength could not be assessed in a short-term evaluation, “the PANAVIA line has a long history of reliable bonding,” according to Dr. Robert Friedstat, who has cemented Maryland bridges with PANAVIA for over 30 years. “Time will tell regarding failures, but so far, so good,” noted Dr. Rodriguez. “If even half the claims of no-etch bonding end up being true long term, it will be a huge boon to the profession,” concluded Dr. Teitelbaum.
Overall SatisfactionEvery dentist who participated in this evaluation said they would recommend PANAVIA SA Cement Universal to colleagues. Since all her cases were successful, Dr. Keenan says she has now purchased the cement for her practice. Calling the cement “spot on” and “a great value,” Dr. Rodriguez said, “It is an excellent product.” Takeaways• One-step cementation for all materials with no separate primers needed • Automix or handmix syringes in 3 shades—white, universal, & translucent • Suitable for crowns/bridges, inlays/onlays, posts, and adhesion bridges • LCSi monomer delivers strong, durable chemical bond to porcelain, lithium disilicate, and composite resin • MDP monomer bonds to enamel, dentin, metal alloy, and zirconia Criteria
