EVALUATION DETAILS

Practitioners are well aware that problems can arise when patients undergo endodontic treatment, and dealing with those issues can pose a range of challenges. One such practitioner is Karen-Lee Jones Stewart, DDS, whose patient came in for an emergency Sunday appointment after having endodontic treatment with a specialist. The temporary restoration had come off and the tooth was fractured at the gum line. She needed a system that could fabricate the post and make a retentive provisional crown—without help from her assistant.

VOCO offers a system for such occasions in its Rebilda Post GT. The system provides bundled endodontic resin posts that reinforce core buildups for endodontically treated teeth while preserving healthy structures and substances. Ultimately, it helped to save the day for Dr. Jones Stewart and her patient. Dr. Jones Stewart was part of a team of dental practitioners who tested and evaluated the Rebilda Post GT system for DPS.

Core Buildup Quality
Calling it a very informative and pleasant experience, a California dentist said the AACD meeting was “a great way to expand your knowledge and learn different techniques in cosmetic dentistry.” Praising the session for its hands-on workshops, Dr. Rijesh Krishnan traveled from India for the event. Though he had not taken advantage of the early bird registration and found some courses full, he concluded that the session overall was a “real eye opener” and that it helped him on his way to the Accreditation process.

While looking for a better and more effective way to rebuild a tooth with curved roots, Dr. Lourdes Albandoz noticed that the fiber post helped her go deep into the canal, even with a curve. She also noted, “They were distributed on the pulp chamber for better strength.” For Dr. Paul Olenyn, the challenge was achieving post and core buildup of multirooted teeth. After using Rebilda Post GT, he found that he was able to “get into roots without more preparation.” And Dr. Bilyana Tesic concluded, “For C-shaped mandibular 2nd molars and wicked curved roots, I found this system to be a lifesaver.”

Post to Canal Adaptation and Preservation of Tooth Structure
According to VOCO, Rebilda Post GT provides superior adaptation to every root canal morphology, with no impairment of the root that might otherwise occur with extensive root canal preparation. Dr. Tesic praised its “great adaptability to a variety of anatomical variations of root canal shapes, [such as] C-shaped canals, curved canals, and thin mandibular anteriors,” and added, “This system works for all of them.” Calling it “a great product with excellent retention without potentially making the root weaker due to intraradicular reduction,” Dr. Chaiken noted, “I felt more confident not having to remove additional structures to fit a post.”

Many evaluators commented on the preservation of healthy tooth structure, including Dr. Chaiken, who said he has worked with other resin post systems that require aggressive tooth removal.  He concluded that the Rebilda Post GT is more conservative of remaining tooth structure. Dr. Jacob Scheiner said his favorite feature was the “conservation of the root with no need to widen it and possibly perforate.” He said he would recommend the system to colleagues because it conserves the tooth structure, explaining, “The fanning out of the post in the crown gives more strength to the core.”

“Oftentimes, endo-treated teeth have already suffered fractures, decay, trauma, etc., so any system that spares remaining healthy dentin helps the long-term survival rate of that tooth,” shared Dr. Tesic. She added, “The Rebilda Post GT System is very accommodating to the remaining tooth structure, whatever shape it may be.”
System Completeness/Convenience
Each Rebilda Post GT kit comes with all 4 post sizes—0.8 mm, 1.0 mm, 1.2 mm, and 1.4 mm. All materials in the set match one another, and with no extra drill needed, treatment time is reduced. Lauding the variability of sizes to fit different post spaces, Dr. Louis Sterling would like to see several solid resin posts added to the kit.  “It works well and is easy to use,” noted Dr. Kristen Joyce, and Dr. Scheiner said, “The instructions are very thorough, it is very versatile, [and] it’s an improvement on the post design as we know it.” Dr. Jones Stewart was pleased that the post was ready on the same day the tooth was prepared, and added, “[It] eliminates the need for a cast post.” When asked about potential improvements, a few evaluators commented on the number of steps required, including Dr. Albandoz, who told DPS, “The different steps made the procedure longer, but it was worth it on the curved-root cases.”

Paul Chaiken,
DDS;
Chicago, IL

“ THE RETENTION OF THE CORE MATERIAL WAS EXCELLENT WITH THE BUNDLED GLASS FIBER- REINFORCED RESIN ROOT POSTS.”
Overall Satisfaction
Calling it an easy-to-use and esthetic core for all ceramic restorations, Dr. Joyce expressed satisfaction with the Rebilda Post GT System. For Dr. Tesic, the system reinforced her faith in 4th-generation bonding as the gold standard, and Dr. Scheiner concluded, “It definitely is a game-changer.”
