SurgiTel's Micro LED headlight is a new generation of LED headlights developed to eliminate drawbacks of traditional LED headlights, including the potential blue light hazard of bright cool LED headlights used with traditional LED headlights.
Six evaluators with a combined 81 years of experience participated in Dental Product Shopper's evaluation of SurgiTel's Micro LED headlight. They rated several features, including tissue color accuracy, ease of controlling brightness, weight, beam size, and overall satisfaction with the product.
According to SurgiTel, the Micro LED headlight provides the user with a uniform beam that does not change color over the range of the depth of field of loupes. SurgiTel also notes that color and beam uniformity of other LED headlights that use a single lens can change over the depth of field of loupes. When asked to rate the tissue color accuracy of the Micro LED headlight, 3 evaluators rated it as excellent, 2 rated it as very good, and 1 rated is as good. An evaluator with 19 years of experience said that the feature he liked most about the Micro LED was its 'tissue color accuracy.'
According to the manufacturer, the Micro LED headlight has analog light intensity control knobs built into the battery unit. This feature gives the user precise control over the brightness of the headlight, showing maximum detail. When the 6 evaluators were asked to rate the ease of controlling the Micro LED headlight's brightness, 5 evaluators rated it as excellent and 1 rated it as very good. A dentist who has been in practice for 2 years said, "I like how the light attaches to the loupes. It is very secure, but movable and detachable." When asked if he would recommend the Micro LED headlight to colleagues or contacts within the dental profession, this evaluator said 'definitely.'
According to the manufacturer, SurgiTel's miniaturized Micro LED headlight is the smallest among LED headlights available in the market. The combined weight of SurgiTel's Micro LED headlights and Micro Loupes is lighter than the weight of traditional loupes. Four evaluators rated the weight of Micro LED headlight as excellent and 2 rated it as very good. A clinician with 2 years of experience said, "It is extremely small and lightweight," while another evaluator with 8 years of experience indicated that his favorite feature was "[The headlight's] compactness. I forget it is even there."
When asked what he would like to see improved about the Micro LED headlight, an evaluator from Troy, MI, said, "The cord seems to have a memory because when I take them off, the cord gets tangled." This evaluator went on to rate Micro LED headlight's weight as 'excellent.'
SurgiTel says their patented or patentpending multi-lens beam forming optics generates defined uniform beams that do not change over the working distance range of users and do not have color dispersion. When the 6 evaluators were asked to rate Micro LED headlight's beam size for illumination of the oral cavity, 5 evaluators rated it as excellent and 1 rated it as very good. A dentist with 12 years of experience in clinical practice said, "The loupes and headlight are lighter [than other competitive products] and now I have a higher magnification and light source to treat my patients." When asked if she would recommend the Micro LED headlight to colleagues or contacts within the dental profession, this evaluator said 'definitely.'
All of the evaluators said they would definitely or probably recommend the Micro LED to their colleagues. All 6 of the evaluators also said they definitely or probably would purchase the Micro LED headlight in the future. Evaluators were asked to rate their overall satisfaction with the Micro LED headlight. Five evaluators rated it as excellent and 1 rated it as very good. An evaluator with 12 years of experience summarized her evaluation of Micro LED headlight by saying, "I couldn?t work without them." Another evaluator with 8 years in practice added, "[The Micro LED headlight has the] best combination of features that I've seen yet."
