Micro Prism Loupes FLM and TTL Loupes
Micro Prism Loupes are one of the most compact, lightweight, and comfortable expanded field loupes available.
SurgiTel's Micro Prism Front-Lens-Mounted (FLM) and Through-the-Lens (TTL) 3.5x magnification system is an upgrade for 2.5x users who appreciate light weight and comfort. The Micro Prism loupes were created to increase magnification and resolution without the problem of increasing weight. The high-resolution glass and prisms provide sharp detail and excellent comfort, allowing the user to practice comfortably. SurgiTel's FLM and TTL loupes can be used with different frames, and can comfortably be used with SurgiTel clip-on headlights or digital surgical camera systems.
Seven dentists with 113 years of experience participated in Dental Product Shopper's evaluation of SurgiTel's Micro Prism Loupes. Evaluators rated several features, including ease of use, resolution, comfort, field size, and overall satisfaction with the product.
Ease of Use
According to SurgiTel, the company's loupes include patented designs for Vertical Slide Adjustment, Ergo Frame 'Tilt,' Compact Prism Design, and Double Nose Pads for ease of use and ergonomics.
The evaluators were asked to rate the ease of use of Micro Prism Loupes; 4 evaluators rated it as excellent, 2 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. An evaluator with 5 years of experience said, "The small size of the loupes provides excellent peripheral vision when switching back and forth from direct vision to looking through the loupes. It took a little while for my eyes to adjust to the transition, but now the vision and focus is seamless."
Resolution (Clarity of Images)
According to the manufacturer, Micro Prism Loupes' ErgoVision HD Optics provide high-quality high-definition glass optics and proprietary multilayered coatings.
When asked to rate resolution (clarity of images), 5 evaluators rated it as excellent and 2 rated it as very good. A clinician with 7 years of experience said, "The clarity is good." An evaluator with 5 years of experience said, "There is also a great depth of field, which provides clear vision even as my posture or positioning changes."
When asked if they would recommend Micro Prism Loupes to colleagues or contacts within the dental profession, both of these evaluators said definitely.
Comfort to Wear
According to SurgiTel, Micro Prism Loupes patent pending compact prism design provides a compact, lightweight, and comfortable expanded field loupe, unlike competitive expanded field loupes, which are bigger, heavier and therefore less comfortable.
When the 7 evaluators were asked to rate Micro Prism's comfort to wear, 5 rated it as excellent and 2 rated it as good. A dentist from Niles, IL, said, "They are lightweight and comfortable to wear," while a dentist from Locust Valley, NY, said her favorite feature was "the comfort and weight of the loupes."
When asked what he would like to see improved about Micro Prism Loupes, an evaluator from Pennsylvania, said, "The only trouble I've had is getting a frame that will fit my larger head correctly."
Five of the 7 evaluators rated the fit of Micro Prism Loupes as "excellent" or "very good."
SurgiTel states that all of their loupes include high-density loupe lens materials and coatings, HD magnification, and the option for Oakley HDO or SurgiTel's high-grade composite ophthalmic lenses, depending on frame choice.
When asked to rate the field size of Micro Prism Loupes, 4 evaluators rated it as excellent, 2 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as poor. A clinician with 27 years of experience said, "The field of vision is larger than other loupes of this magnification," while an evaluator with 8 years of experience, said, "The size of the prisms are amazing."
When the evaluators were asked if they would recommend Micro Prism Loupes to their colleagues, 6 evaluators said definitely. Six of the 7 evaluators said they definitely would purchase the loupes in the future.
Evaluators were asked to rate their overall satisfaction with Micro Prism Loupes. Four evaluators rated it as excellent and 3 rated it as very good. An evaluator from Boston, MA, summarized her evaluation of Micro Prism Loupes saying, "'I am very happy with all aspects of this product and would definitely recommend it to a colleague."
