Flexi-Post Family

For more than 30 years, Essential Dental Systems (EDS) has been providing dentists with endodontic posts to meet virtually every need. Beginning with the Flexi-Post, EDS continues to expand and develop posts that incorporate the newest materials, backed by research.

Flexi-Post

Before the introduction of the split-shank designed Flexi-Post, there were 2 post categories: passive posts (with no threads, held in by cement) and active posts (held in by mechanical threads). Passive posts have low retention, which can cause restorations to fall out. Solid shank active posts have high retention, but can fracture teeth because of stress.

The Flexi-Post incorporates a patented splitshank that absorbs and minimizes the stresses of insertion, reducing the risk of root fracture. The splitshank closes on insertion for maximum retention and minimal stress. The post distributes functional stresses evenly around the embedded threads.

According to EDS, the Flexi-Post, allows most clinicians to complete a post-and-core restoration on a single-rooted tooth in 15 minutes or less. The post can be used in place of a cast post, eliminating laboratory expenses and chair time for fittings.

Flexi-Flange

Three years after the introduction of the Flexi- Post, EDS launched Flexi-Flange, a patented prefabricated post. EDS developed this product because they saw the need to provide greater stability in cases that had little or no coronal dentin.

The Flexi-Flange is designed to reduce the incidence of root fractures. In addition, Flexi-Flange makes the most of dentin-to-metal contact to distribute destabilizing stress over a large area and reduce stress concentrations at any single point.

Similar to the Flexi-Post, the Flexi-Flange splitshank design adapts to the root by closing during insertion. By making a post with a ?flange,? a wider tier is produced at the base of the post head. The triple-tier design of this post distributes functional stress to the strongest point of the root and provides resistance to post loosening and root or post fracture. By counter-sinking the flange area into the coronal root surface, the post provides the greatest stability possible.

Flexi-Post Fiber & Flexi-Flange Fiber

The increased popularity of fiber posts, lead EDS to take the technology behind Flexi-Post and Flexi-Flange and incorporate it into fiber posts. The splitshank design is now available in fiber, which does not require a bonding agent.

The Flexi-Post Fiber and Flexi-Flange Fiber are made from proprietary, epoxyreinforced high-strength S-glass fiber for predictable retention and reduced stress. Using the patented split-shank tap with both posts, stress is absorbed by the tap rather than the root, virtually eliminating the major cause of root fracture. The vertical blades help to remove dentinal debris, making post placement easier.

With both metal and fiber post versions of Flexi-Post and Flexi-Flange, dentists have a choice. Both posts provide high retention and stability; however, the fiber versions can provide a highly retentive esthetic post.

EDS continues its successful post line with the addition of Ti-Core Flow+. This composite provides high post retention, and can be used as a strong core material. As a ?2-in-1? material, it saves the dentist both time and money.
