The American Academy of Periodontics has announced that their new officers have taken their seats on the Board of Trustees. On September 29 through October 2, 2012, the AAP held their 98th annual meeting in Los Angeles. There, the officers were installed in their seats.
Leading the Board of Trustees is Dr. Nancy Newhouse of Independence, MO.
'This year's officers provide a wealth of knowledge and clinical experience to the AAP Board of Trustees,' Dr. Newhouse said in a press release. 'The AAP has many exciting initiatives planned for the year ahead and I am confident that we have a solid leadership team in place to help guide the periodontal profession.'
Other Trustee appointments include Dr. Stuart J. Froum, DDS as the President elect. A member of the AAP since 1971, Dr. Froum maintains a private practice in Manhattan and is a clinical professor of periodontics and implant dentistry and the director of Clinical Research in the Department of Periodontics and Implant Dentistry at New York University Dental Center. Dr. Froum has also authored 3 courses on implant dentistry for Dental Learning, with another slated in the coming weeks. They can be found here:

Dr. Joan Otomo-Corgel, DDS, MPH was named the Vice President. An AAP member since 1977, Dr. Otomo-Corgel is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Periodontics at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Dentistry, and maintains a private practice limited to periodontics, oral medicine and implantology in Los Angeles.
Dr. Wayne Aldredge, DMD was named Secretary/Treasurer. Dr. Aldredge has more than 15 years of experience in dentistry. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontics and Dental Implantology at Stony Brook University and an attending faculty member at Newark Beth Israel Hospital.
Dr. Pamela McClain, DDS will assist the board in the role of immediate past president.
