TEMPLATE Ultra-Quick Silicone Matrix Material
Clinician’s Choice Dental Products, Inc
TEMPLATE Ultra-Quick is a silicone matrix material that provides superior detail and accuracy.
Many dentists use alginate, putty, bite registration material, or a vacuum form material to create a matrix for temporary fabrication. Time and accuracy, however, are sacrificed when these techniques are used; they either take too long, or they lack the detail to prevent flash formation during the temporary fabrication.
Clinician’s Choice describes TEMPLATE Ultra- Quick as a silicone matrix material that provides a perfect matrix in a single take. TEMPLATE is 100% dimensionally stable and its accuracy ensures an exceptional fitting provisional. According to the manufacturer, TEMPLATE provides superior detail compared to putty or alginate matrix and doesn’t require hand mixing or cleanup.
Fifteen evaluators with a combined 348 years of experience participated in Dental Product Shopper’s evaluation of TEMPLATE. Evaluators rated several features, including ease of dispensing, working time, setting time, detail, accuracy of matrix, and overall satisfaction of the product.
Ease of Dispensing
Designed specifically for provisional matrix fabrication, TEMPLATE is an ultra quick and ultra accurate silicone matrix material that flows into the embrasure areas and into the finest morphology to capture detail. According to Clinician’s Choice, these qualities help to prevent interproximal and occlusal flash, and reduce chair time.
TEMPLATE’s ease of dispensing was well-received by evaluators; 9 rated it as excellent, 5 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. An evaluator with 35 years of experience said, “It was very easy to dispense yet held its place.” An evaluator with 29 years of experience agreed: “I used to use an alginate VPS substitute for template for temp crowns and TEMPLATE is faster and easier to place.”
Working Time and Setting Time
Most dentists repair Class III and IV defects only to find themselves struggling to finish the lingual aspect of the restoration, wasting valuable chair time. According to the manufacturer, when TEMPLATE is used with the Lingual Matrix Technique, the lingual surface can be pre-shaped and re-fined while restoring the tooth, leaving only the polishing step to complete the restoration.
When the 15 evaluators were asked to rate working/setting time, 10 rated it excellent and 5 rated it very good. A dentist who has been in practices in Westlake, OH, said “Its quick setting time from time of dispensing was very big plus. This minimizes the amount of time the impression must remain in the mouth.”
Detail/Accuracy of Matrix
According to Clinician’s Choice, TEMPLATE flows easily, captures detail well, and cures to a rigid 68 durometer.
When asked to rate detail/accuracy of the matrix (bubbles, voids), 6 evaluators rated TEMPLATE as excellent, 7 rated it as very good, 1 rated it as good, and 1 rated it as fair. A clinician with 4 years of experience said, “I like how highly detailed the impression material is, allowing for a beautiful temporary.” When asked what he would like to see improved about the product, an evaluator from Irvine, CA, said “Being able to provide more detail information on the anatomy, especially for the anterior teeth.”
When the evaluators were asked if they would recommend TEMPLATE to their colleagues, 14 said they “definitely” or “probably” would. Thirteen of the 15 evaluators said they “definitely” or “probably” would purchase TEMPLATE in the future.
Evaluators were asked to rate their overall satisfaction with TEMPLATE. 7 evaluators rated it as excellent, 7 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. An evaluator with 30 years of experience summarized his evaluation of TEMPLATE saying, “This material just works great for making a pre-op mold of the tooth for making temporaries with flowable materials. I am almost out of the material and will definitely buy this product when I run out.” Another evaluator added, ‘ Simply put, it works great creating beautiful temporaries.”
