Powered by F2 Flex Fuse Technology, GC FujiCEM 2 offers increased strength properties across the board.
According to GC America, GC FujiCEM 2 resin modified glass ionomer luting cement is powered by F2 Flex Fuse Technology, which incorporates high-elastic crosslinking monomers with a modified filler-surface treatment to increase strength properties. The manufacturer says this technology significantly improves bond, flexural, and compressive strength to not only enamel and dentin, but also to some of the most popular material substrates.
Fifteen dentists participated in this Dental Product Shopper evaluation of GC FujiCEM 2. They rated several features of the material, including the delivery system, handling and consistency, initial bond strength, and clean up.
GC FujiCEM 2 offers 2 dispensing options: the new GC FujiCEM 2 Dispenser or the metallic Paste Pak Dispenser. According to the manufacturer the new dispenser is 85% lighter, allowing the material to be easily delivered directly into the restoration. The evaluators used the GC FujiCEM 2 Dispenser. When asked to rate the GC FujiCEM 2 delivery system, 11 evaluators rated it as excellent, 3 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. A dentist with 25 years of practice experience, said, “I believe this is the easiest product to dispense and to clean up.” He also said he would definitely purchase GC FujiCEM 2 in the future and recommend it to colleagues. Another evaluator said, “I like the automix delivery.”
Handling and Consistency
According to the manufacturer, GC FujiCEM 2 has a creamy consistency and low film thickness. The mixed paste is not messy, but it allows for good flow under seating pressure. The evaluators rated the handling and consistency of GC FujiCEM 2 very highly, with 13 rating it as excellent and 2 rating it as very good. An evaluator from Bayside, NY, said, “The cement handles well.” This same evaluator gave the product an overall satisfaction rating of very good. Another evaluator
described GC FujiCEM 2 as having “excellent consistency.”
Initial Bond Strength
GC America claims GC FujiCEM 2 provides optimal chemical balance for maximum adhesion to tooth structure. According to the manufacturer, the early high compressive and flexural strength provides excellent support for indirect restorations. Nine evaluators rated the initial bond strength of GC FujiCEM 2 as excellent, 3 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good; 2 evaluators did not rate this feature. An evaluator from Miami, FL, with 13 years of experience, said, “This is a very simple, fool-proof system with easy clean up and great bond.” Another evaluator said, “The initial set is great.”
According to GC America, GC FujiCEM 2 reaches a rubbery consistency 1 minute after luting for easy removal of excess material. When asked to rate the ease of clean up of GC FujiCEM 2, 14 evaluators rated it as excellent and 1 rated it as very good. Seven evaluators said that ease of cleanup was among their favorite features of the cement.
