GRADIA CORE and GC FIBER POST
GC America’s GRADIA CORE system couples double-duty build-up/cement material with tapered fiber posts.
GC America’s GRADIA CORE core build-up material and GC FIBER POST work together for optimal restoration and quality.
Formulated for efficiency, GRADIA CORE can be used for both core build-up and post cementing. The radiopaque material features exceptional strength (flexural, compressive, and microtensile); a modulus of elasticity similar to dentin; and high bond strength to enamel, dentin, and the GC FIBER POST.
GC FIBER POST combines high flexural strength with a low modulus of elasticity (similar to den - tin). This strength and elasticity reduce the risk of stress transfer and root fractures, resulting in excellent fatigue resistance.
Twelve dentists participated in this Dental Product Shopper product evaluation, rating features of the GRADIA CORE material, the GC FIBER POST, and the overall system.
Ease of Use—GRADIA CORE
GRADIA CORE combines 1-step, self-etching bonding with easy mixing for an optimally homogeneous mix. Excellent flow properties prevent voids. Ease of use is further enhanced by cutting characteristics similar to dentin, a long working time, and rapid dual-curing.
Ease of use of the overall system, handling of the core build-up material, and immediate bonding to the tooth were all rated as excellent by 4 evaluators, as very good by 5, and as good by 3. When asked about cutting qualities, 5 dentists rated GRADIA CORE as excellent, 5 rated it as very good, 1 rated it as good, and 1 rated it as fair.
An evaluator who found the material easy to cut had some difficulty getting the mixing tip into the post hole. Another dentist found the tips “easy to aim into canals,” but also said that they bend easily, which makes it difficult to aim into hard-to-reach areas. This same evaluator described the system as “very user-friendly and simple. The material cuts smoothly and finishes well. Smooth flow means less likelihood of incorporating bubbles, as with other products.” Two dentists cited flow as the feature they liked best.
Eleven of the 12 evaluators rated GRADIA CORE’s effectiveness as both a build-up material and post cement. Six rated it as excellent, 1 as very good, 3 as good, and 1 as fair. One of the 2 evaluators who cited this as the feature they liked best said it, “saved time and eliminated the potential for incompatibility between the bonding agent and core material.” Another evaluator said, “If you want a durable product but have staff who don't like to deal with too many steps and patients who don't want to sit too long, this is the one kit you should have.”
Ease of Use—GC FIBER POST
The biocompatible, non-corrosive, GC FIBER POST is highly esthetic with excellent light transmission, and it bonds strongly and intimately with the GRADIA CORE. The tapered design allows for minimal dentin removal.
Post flexibility was rated as excellent by 5 evaluators, as very good by 4, and as good by 3. One dentist suggested “sharper drill tips” and another “would like to see a post smaller than the 1.2 mm.” GC America offers refills of the GC FIBER POST in sizes 0.8, 1.0, 1.4, and 1.6. Comments from users of both metal and fiber posts included “fast, accurate placement” and “very easy system.” A New York dentist who normally uses metal posts said, “The best feature is that it’s easy to use compared to screw posts.”
Final esthetics achieved with the GRADIA CORE system were rated as excellent by 4 evaluators, as very good by 7, and as fair by 1. Overall satisfaction was rated as excellent by 4 evaluators, as very good by 6, and as good to fair by 2. When asked about his favorite feature, 1 dentist said, “All of it…a great package and easy to implement.” One evaluator described it as “great for anyone who wants an effective product that’s easy to work with and takes less time,” and another evaluator called it “much better than [my current system].” “I was skeptical at first,” acknowledged a dentist with 30 years of experience, “but I fell in love with the system.”
