VALO Cordless LED Curing Light—Critical Step to Restoration Success

Recently, I’ve been intrigued by attitudes toward light curing. I often think of GEICO’s old tagline, “So easy, a cave man can do it.” For me, the advances in adhesion and light curing have revolutionized adhesive resin restorative dentistry, providing quick techniques for long-lasting restorations. But, don’t take your curing light for granted. As Indiana Jones was told when he asked which cup was the Holy Grail, “Choose wisely.” What’s Available LED, quartz halogen, and plasma arc (PAC) lights all work well, as long as the practitioner understands that resin and adhesives light cure because...

best light I have ever used/
This light has been a god sent to the practice. Accesses anywhere and cures quickly but thoroughly. Love it.

Valo light is outstanding
In the last 35 years I have used a lot of curing lights this is the best yet. It is rugged. We have broken other tips. It is so easy to use. You can set different times and intensities on it and every cycle is fast, better than our plasma arc light and a lot lighter. I have completed several trial cures and even the darkest shades are cured 2mm in 4 seconds on the second highest intensity. We use 8 seconds cure routinely. We usually use Kerr's Sonicfill. It cures to 4mm every time. I haven't tried a larger sample. The shape is perfect. It cures everywhere even in small mouths. The only difficulty with access I have had is a straight distal without a proximal box on a second bicuspid where the first molar is missing and the space is closed. Curing from the facial and then the lingual worked well. We have a VAlo with a cord. While it does everything, this is so much nicer for mobility and avoiding the hassle of the cord. We routinely use the covers that are made to go over it but if you didn't the lens is replaceable if you gert material on it. The only negative comment I would make is that Ultradent needs to have a charge indicator on the light. We have had the batteries go out in the middle of a procedure. It is not fun to run for the other light when you have just cured the bond.

Valo Cordless
When we shopped at the convention, the Valo seemed to be the best. In real life, it is heavy and awkward to hold in the pencil grip. The neck is short-third and second molars are hard to reach coming in anteriorly, so we have to go in from the buccal. The activation button is hard to push in the pencil grip so my assistant uses her other hand to push. We do like the cordless feature, the long battery life, and the multiple timing choices.
