Diamonds are often described as a girl’s best friend. But to dentists, diamonds and carbides that are worn or dull are a far cry from best-friend material. Thankfully, dentists can find a friend in Komet’s Single-Use Diamonds and Carbides, which deliver exceptional sharpness and cutting efficacy with every use.

Hoping to reduce the risk of cross-contamination without sacrificing quality, Dr. Steve Taborda tried Komet’s diamonds and carbides and discovered “single-use burs that are top of the line in cutting efficiency.” He found them especially useful for cosmetic cases, in which the shape and precision of the prep is “a must,” and for patients whose medical conditions require the use of disposables to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

Cutting Efficacy

Komet’s entire single-use line of operatory and finishing carbides and diamonds offers exceptionally smooth, efficient, and reliable cutting in a range of shapes and diameters. The evaluators received a modified-taper shoulder coarse diamond operative bur, an egg-shaped coarse diamond finishing bur, 2 operative carbides (pear-shaped and cross-cut fissure), and 2 finishing carbides (egg-shaped and fi ne-grit flame-shaped).

Dr. Stephen Rosenberg described the Single-Use Diamonds as “smooth cutting, highly concentric, and efficient instruments with the advantage of singleuse infection control.” For Dr. Sam Chui, “the burs were sharp and ran true, shank size was consistent, and they fi t multiple handpieces.” Dr. Todd Phelan used the diamonds for several crown preps and “was happy with the result every time,” and Dr. Teresa DeStefano simply described the burs as “great at cutting!”

“You know they’ll be sharp. They’re cost-effective and definitely worth it for crown preps,” said Dr. Michael Pardonnet. Dr. Richard Leiman said he’d recommend them as “efficient and smooth cutting diamonds” and was pleased that “the burs worked in many types of situations.” Hoping for cutting that remains consistent through multiple teeth in a single procedure, Dr. Trupti Nadkarni said, “The carbide burs had good cutting efficiency,” and Dr. Vikram Rajadhyaksha was especially impressed with their cutting speed. Dr. Stephen Glick determined, “These burs work just as well as the multiuse burs that cost much more.”

Sharpness & Strength

Several evaluators commented on the sharpness and quality of Komet’s Single-Use Diamonds and Carbides. “The burs are sharp and efficient every time and can be used for all areas of the mouth,” shared Dr. Sherrill Jordan. Having a sharp new bur for each prep “keeps burs from getting dull and slowing treatment time,” explained Dr. Rowe, who said he experienced some chatter above 40,000 rpm on his electric handpieces. Calling the burs “strong with no breakage during use,” Dr. Chui liked having a sharp bur each time. Previously experiencing bur heads that broke off, Dr. Rajadhyaksha said, “This didn’t happen anymore with the Komet burs.”

Calling the Komet diamonds and carbides “superior to many other products I’ve tried,” Dr. Sylvia Irwin shared, “I wanted to find a good single-use bur and I found one.” She especially appreciated that she “could continue using the bur for more than one prep, and the diamond grit didn’t come flying off.”

Time Savings/Efficiency

The Single-Use Diamonds and Carbides come in rolls of 25 and are individually packaged for convenience. A built-in inventory counter and QR code make reordering extra easy, and the packaging doubles as bur storage. “I liked using and tossing the diamonds without worrying about using a worn-out diamond with my next preparation,” Dr. Leiman said. “Their use was successful, and cleanup was simple and quick.” For Dr. Irwin, the product line “makes life easier without the aggravation of costly burs being disposed of accidentally.” Calling the burs “definitely a step up for crown and bridge procedures,” Dr. Jordan said, “They make cutting more efficient and quick.”

The green cylinder bur for crown preps “cut down on the number of burs used and saved time,” noted Dr. Sital Patel. “The preparation process was more efficient and could be completed faster,” which was especially beneficial for apprehensive patients, said Dr. Glick. He also pointed out that “the packaging made tracking inventory super easy,” and he likes the color markings that indicate coarseness, which helps him tell multiple burs apart on the table. In addition to the “more efficient cutting procedure with single-use burs,” Dr. Chui praised Komet’s “built-in countdown labeling on the convenient rolled packaging, which eases inventory control and worries.”

Overall Satisfaction

Due to its cutting efficiency and numerous additional benefits, Komet’s single-use line received overwhelmingly positive feedback from evaluators, including from Dr. Rosenberg. Calling the diamonds and carbides “sharp and clean every time,” he said, “They increase procedural efficacy by making preparations better, faster, and easier.” Noting that “efficient burs are a fundamental necessity to the practice of dentistry,” Dr. Rosenberg concluded, “The Komet Single-Use Diamonds and Carbides fill that need very well.”
