Nexus RMGI

Kerr Dental's Nexus RMGI is a radiopaque resin-modified glass ionomer luting cement offered in a paste/paste formulation that provides an option for tack light-curing of excess cement.

Nexus RMGI delivers a high bond strength to tooth structures and common substrates. By combinding tack-curing and a "one-peel" cleanup process, dental professionals can easily remove excess cement for predictable, consistent outcomes. BPO- and amine-free chemistry enhance esthetics with optimum translucency and exceptional color stability. RMGI technology improves mechanical properties, decreases setting times, and attenuates moisture sensitivity. This dual-cure material is packaged in dual barrel syringes with single-use automix tips.

Optimal intra-oral and root canal dispensing tips are available to allow the user to deliver the desired volume of cement directly into the restoration and/or tooth prep.

Indications for Use:
Nexus RMGI is intended for use as a permanent dental cement. It is indicated for the following indirect restorations:

1. Cementation of metal-based inlays, onlays, crowns and bridges
2. Cementation of resin inlays, onlays, crowns and bridges
3. Cementation of all ceramic inlays
4. Cementation of high strength (zirconia based) all ceramic crowns and bridges
5. Cementation of metal, ceramic and fiber posts

Nexus RMGI Luting Cement

Nexus RMGI luting cement combines dual-adhesive technology, One-Peel cleanup, and outstanding bond strength to produce highly esthetic, predictable restorative outcomes

When a dentist sticks with the same resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI) luting cement for over 10 years, it’s a sure bet that product is a winner. That’s exactly why Dr. Richard Siegel has relied on Kerr’s Nexus RMGI to cement all of his indirect restorations in those 10+ years. A dual-cure, dual-adhesive, radiopaque RMGI cement, Nexus RMGI is indicated for cementation of indirect restorations. “I really like it for placing crowns, mostly zirconia, but also lithium disilicate,” Dr. Siegel told DPS. “I’m particular and I wouldn’t have used it for 10 years if I didn’t like it.”

Not only does Dr. Siegel believe that Nexus RMGI is a winning product, but DPS evaluators agree, as they deemed it a best product in 2014 for its innovative dual-adhesive technology, picture-perfect esthetics, and easy One-Peel cleanup. Dr. Siegel and several other long-term users determined that Nexus RMGI delivers a durable bond for predictable, long-lasting restorative results.

Ease of Use

Dispensed in dual barrel syringes with single-use automix tips, Nexus RMGI “is very simple to use, and the automix tips save time and make it easy for the assistant,” said Dr. Victoria Spindel Rubin. “The dispensing tip and automix setup are quite good,” agreed Dr. Arthur Volker, and Dr. Sean Grady said, “Nexus RMGI is very easy to dispense and easily loads in the restoration.” Grateful for its dual-cure capabilities and long mixing tips, Dr. Siegel said Nexus RMGI is “great for anterior or posterior restorations.”

“It’s not a very thick cement, which is good because some other RMGIs are a little bit thick,” noted Dr. Volker, who was one of the original DPS evaluators 8 years ago. He also enjoys the long working time which “gives me a lot of time to work in cases where I’m cementing multiple units.” Because “it takes a while to set, I don’t need to worry about the cement setting up on me,” he added.

One-Peel Cleanup

With advanced Nexus technology that enables an optimal gel state and tack cure capability, any excess cement is quick and easy to clean up. Kerr calls this One-Peel cleanup, which Dr. Grady says “is one of the best features of Nexus RMGI cement.” He explained, “Other brands on the market require time and patience while removing the excess because it breaks into small fragments and is time consuming. Once set, Nexus RMGI can literally be peeled off from around the crown margin with very little remaining residue (if any) to clean.” Dr. Siegel called it “extremely easy to clean up, much easier than some other cements,” and Dr. Spindel Rubin likes “that you can tack it quickly, and it peels off easily.” Calling the peel-away cleanup “definitely a great feature to have,” Dr. Volker said, “It peels nicely, and I like the tack cure capability.”

“Having confidence in Nexus’ bond strength has made it my RMGI cement of choice.”

Esthetics, Caries Prevention, & Bond Strength

For optimal esthetics, Nexus RMGI features high translucency and color stability, which Dr. Grady said “has proven itself over and over again.” He explained, “Now that I exclusively use Nexus RMGI as my go-to cement for zirconia crowns, I can comfortably say the material’s properties prevent shade changes once a restoration is cemented, and it does not change color over time.” Using it mainly for lithium disilicate restorations, Dr. Spindel Rubin said, “The crown color seems to be consistent.”

In addition to long-term sustained fluoride release, Nexus RMGI releases zinc and calcium ions to help prevent secondary caries. “The release of fluoride and calcium are definitely factors that I would consider a benefit of Nexus RMGI,” shared Dr. Siegel, who said it “helps with pulpal sensitivity and strengthening surrounding tooth structure.” Dr. Spindel Rubin noted, “I love that it releases fluoride to prevent further decay and helps keep the margins healthy.” Powered by Kerr’s innovative dual-adhesive technology, Nexus RMGI bonds securely to tooth structures and dental substrates, including zirconia. “I have used 2 other popular RMGI cements for years and, although bond strength is fairly predictable, there always seems to be a crown that debonds here and there,” shared Dr. Grady. “I have seated a few hundred zirconia crowns with Nexus RMGI and have not experienced a single debond,” he added. “The bond strength is quite good, and, in our practice, Nexus RMGI has shown good long-term reliability,” agreed Dr. Volker.

Overall Satisfaction

“Over the years I have found that Kerr’s products perform well, and I’m very happy to have discovered Nexus RMGI,” shared Dr. Grady, who acknowledged that “he was not always confident after cementing restorations with other RMGIs because of occasional unpredictability and difficult cleanup.” He concluded, “Having confidence in Nexus’ bond strength has made it my RMGI cement of choice. It’s very comforting knowing the material you are using will meet or exceed expectations every time!”
