Consistent mix and ease of dispensing are the hallmarks of RelyX Luting Plus Automix.
RelyX Luting Plus resin modified glass ionomer (RMGI) cement, which is described by 3M as the only RMGI cement with a tack light cure option, is available in an automix delivery system. According to the manufacturer, automix dispensing eliminates loading, measuring, and hand-mixing.
Fifteen dentists participated in this Dental Product Shopper evaluation of RelyX Luting Plus Automix. They rated the product’s ease of dispensing, effectiveness of the light tack cure option, and mixing consistency.
Ease of Dispensing
According to 3M, the lightweight automix syringe is the right size for easy handling. It also allows for flexible dosing, so the clinician can dispense the precise amount of material for each case. The manufacturer also describes the cement as having the ideal consistency for loading into the restoration and easy seating.
When asked to rate the ease of dispensing RelyX Luting Plus Automix, 11 dentists rated the product as excellent, 3 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. Ten evaluators noted that ease of use or ease of dispensing was their favorite feature. A dentist from Santa Barbara, CA, said, “[I] like the consistency; good product with multiple applications.”
A dentist from Hazelwood, MO, with 26 years of experience, said, “The consistency and ease of use is excellent.” This evaluator said he found RelyX Luting Plus Automix to be much better than similar products and he would definitely recommend it to colleagues and purchase it in the future.
Effectiveness of Light Tack Cure Option
3M ESPE says the tack light cure option of RelyX Luting Plus Automix results in faster cleanup of excess cement. Using a conventional light-curing device, the gel state of the product can be sped up by light curing excess cement for about 5 seconds per surface. Another option is to wait for the material to selfcure, which typically takes about 2 minutes after seating.
Eight dentists rated the effectiveness of the light tack cure option as excellent, 4 rated it as very good, 1 rated it as good, and 2 rated it as fair. When asked what he would like to see improved about RelyX Luting Plus Automix, an evaluator from Ocean Springs, MS, with 30 years of experience, said, “Consistency of the light tack [cure].”
Five evaluators named the tack light cure option as one of the features they liked best about the product. An evaluator from Dearborn, MI, said, “[I] love the tack cure feature!” This same evaluator also said she would definitely purchase the product in the future and recommend it to colleagues.
Consistent Mixing
The automix tip is designed to self-mix the 2 pastes as they are being dispensed. According to 3M, this self-mixing results in easier and more precise delivery of RelyX Luting Plus cement.
When asked to rate the consistent mixing in the syringe, 12 evaluators rated the product as excellent and 3 rated it as very good. An evaluator with 15 years of experience said, “It’s a great product. My chairside assistants love the ease of use and I love the predictability.”
Overall Satisfaction
Thirteen of the evaluators said they would definitely or probably recommend RelyX Luting Plus Automix to their dental colleagues, and 12 said they would definitely or probably purchase the product in the future. When asked to give their overall satisfaction rating for RelyX Luting Plus Automix, 9 evaluators rated it as excellent, 3 rated it as very good, 2 rated it as good, and 1 rated it as fair.
An evaluator with 17 years of experience said, “I really like this product.” Another evaluator described RelyX Luting Plus Automix as “far superior to others.”
