Eight dentists who participated in this Dental Product Shopper evaluation agreed that Shofu's BeautiCem SA cement is much or somewhat better than similar products offered by other manufacturers.
BeautiCem SA is a self-etch, self-adhesive, dual-cure resin cement that incorporates Shofu's proprietary Giomer filler technology for fluoride release and recharge at the margins. BeautiCem SA is designed to deliver high bond values across all substrates, ensuring the cement can handle any clinical situation. The cement is available in an automix syringe in clear and ivory shades.
Twelve dentists with a total of 254 years of experience in dentistry participated in this evaluation of BeautiCem SA. Each evaluator used the product in-office for 4 weeks, then rated and commented on their experiences with the product.
Ease of Use/Handling/Cleanup
Manufacturer Description: BeautiCem SA provides several handling and ease of use benefits to clinicians. No primer is required for all metal, composite, or alumina (except porcelain), and its automixing syringe eliminates hand mixing. Because of BeautiCem SA's dual-cure properties, a quick, 2-second flash-cure provides easy marginal cleanup. The low 12-mm film thickness allows for extra space in tight-fit situations and provides nearly undetectable margins.
Evaluator Feedback: All 12 evaluators rated BeautiCem SA's ease of use/handling as excellent or very good. An evaluator from Waterford, MI, said, "BeautiCem SA is easy to dispense (no mixing!)." A second evaluator added, "It's simple and easy to use with a one-step procedure." Another evaluator said, "The low film thickness is fantastic and extremely easy to use."
Several evaluators made positive comments about BeautiCem SA's ease of cleanup. A Rhode Island-based dentist said, "The delivery system is very easy. Giomer technology consists of Surface Pre-Reacted Glass (S-PRG) filler particles, which uniquely releases 6 ions: fluoride, sodium, strontium, aluminum, silicate, and borate-all with known bioactive properties serving to repair teeth and protect tooth structure.
Evaluator Feedback: In evaluating BeautiCem SA, several evaluators commented that they liked the product's fluoride release/recharge feature. A dentist with 35 years of experience said, "I appreciate the Giomer technology that sets this cement apart from others on the market today."
