J-Temp
With its light-cured, flowable, self-leveling properties, this temporary resin material is a durable solution for multiple clinical indications
No one can underestimate the value of time, and that’s especially true in the dental profession, where time is money. Frustrated with wasting time while waiting for dental materials to set, Dr. Beena Lad was searching for a quick and easy-to-use temporary resin material that would improve her workflow. Fortunately, she discovered Ultradent’s J-Temp, a temporary resin material that “cut down my treatment time tremendously!” She explained, “It feels just like a filling material but is super fast and beyond easy to use and remove when needed.”
A radiopaque, light-cured, flowable, methacrylate-based resin, J-Temp is a durable—yet temporary—material for multiple indications such as temporary restorations, tooth buildups, and more. Easy to deliver with a syringe and mini tip, the material’s flowable viscosity adapts to the tooth structure with minimal shrinkage, and its unique purple color provides easy visualization. Because “it does multiple things to make my workflow easy,” J-Temp has quickly become Dr. Lad’s go-to temporary material.
Versatility
Appreciating its versatility for multiple indications, Dr. Beth Snyder shared, “J-Temp filled a void in my materials I didn’t even realize I had. We found ourselves reaching for it several times, and I am thrilled that I can use it in several situations.” Reporting that “J-Temp made my chairside experience fun,” Dr. Bilyana Tesic said, “It’s easy to use for anything, including temporizing access holes, sealing rubber dams, internal bleaching, and as a temporary filling material.”
Explaining a case with extensive decay on tooth Nos. 8 and 9, Dr. Tiffany Lee said, “I was able to use J-Temp to tack the matrix into place and not worry about the matrix shifting or having trouble visualizing it for removal.” Dr. Kyungiee Muir called it “excellent for bleaching trays,” Dr. Michael Glasmeier successfully used it on 2 All-on-4 cases, and prosthodontist Dr. Byron Davis said it sped up procedures and was a “great product to use for implant verification indexes and in pulpal floor closure, giving easy visibility.”
When using J-Temp on chipped or fractured teeth, Dr. Andrew Mogelof said he could “make a mold with a putty and then make a temp crown quickly.” He also “placed J-Temp as a rim at the gingival margin to allow isolation for endodontic access” and said it made “connecting implant impression abutments easier.”
Placement & Handling
J-Temp comes premixed in 1.2-mL syringes, and Ultradent recommends using its Black Mini tips for simple, precise placement. “I found the flow through the tip very comfortable” without having to push too hard on the syringe, shared Dr. Snyder, who said the viscosity “was just right, flowed well, and didn’t seem to leave a void.” She suggested that it would be nice to have a second viscosity that was more rigid for some applications. The easy application saved time for Dr. Aisha Nasir, Dr. Davis “really liked the flowability,” and Dr. Mogelof said, “It stacks well so it will keep the anatomy you create.” Calling J-Temp “flowable without being too runny,” Dr. Tesic noted, “Its perfect viscosity makes for easy handling and shaping of the material,” while Dr. Edward Rosenthal found the consistency too runny.
Several evaluators found J-Temp to be a lifesaver with emergency patients, including Dr. Artin Manoukian, who placed it on a fractured lingual cusp on an upper bicuspid just before the patient went on a trip. When the patient returned, “he had no sensitivity, the temporary was still there, and I was able to do a full-coverage crown.” He added, “It places like a normal resin and acts much better than any provisional,” which saved chair time.
Purple Color & Ease of Removal
J-Temp’s slight purple color “was not crazy bright but was just enough to stand out from the tooth color,” shared Dr. Snyder. “The purple color allows easy demarcation, so the clinician knows where the margin is,” said Dr. Mogelof, and Dr. Lee said the “color makes it so easy to visualize to remove.” Noting that the “deep purple color fades into a lighter and very subtle shade of purple once it is light cured,” Dr. Tesic said the color serves as a clever reminder for patients to come back for their permanent restorations.
After using J-Temp for several weeks, none of the evaluators reported any failed bonds, and Dr. Davis said the material was very hard after curing. “It adhered well in the lab but cleaned off the tooth well,” shared Dr. Scott Turik, and Dr. Mogelof said, “It seals well, adapts well, and is easy to use and remove.” When using J-Temp for bite stops, Dr. Snyder had excellent adhesion and was confident that “we will have no issue removing it.”
Overall Satisfaction
Noting that she uses several Ultradent products, Dr. Tesic agreed that J-Temp was easy to remove and called it “a good temporary material to add to my armamentarium.” Reporting that “J-Temp definitely saves time,” Dr. Mogelof said, “Having an inexpensive resin to use to seal, protect, and cover tissue is so helpful. Try it—you’ll like it!” Nearly every evaluator agreed that J-Temp was a time-saver, with Dr. Lad saying, “It cut down chair time drastically!” Dr. Lee concluded, “As usual, with anything from Ultradent, this product is exceptional and easy to use.”
