Ease of Use
Manufacturer Description: RelyX Ultimate cement is uniquely formulated with an integrated component that activates the adhesive’s dark cure function, eliminating the need for an additional activator. Scotchbond Universal adhesive acts as a silane agent for glass ceramics, as well as a zirconia and metal primer. Together, the cement and adhesive reduce the number of steps required, cut down on needed inventory, and facilitate easier handling.
Evaluator Feedback: An evaluator from Canonsburg, VA with 19 years of experience who noted that 3M’s RelyX Ultimate is much better than similar cements, called the product “very versatile and easy to use.” This same evaluator said he would definitely purchase it in the future and recommend it to his colleagues.
One evaluator, who rated ease of use as excellent, said, “I would like to see more shades offered.” When asked what he would like to see improved about the product, one evaluator said, “the instructions could be made easier to follow,” while another evaluator called the instructions “very straight forward.”
With regard to ease of clean-up, one evaluator noted that RelyX Ultimate is “easy to use and clean from the restoration without patient discomfort.” A New Jersey dentist in practice for 25 years said, “Clean-up of residual cement is as simple as with any cement I’ve ever used.”
Handling, Viscosity, and Ease of Placement
Evaluator Feedback: A dentist who rated all features of RelyX Ultimate as excellent described handling as “great.” Another evaluator reported “excellent consistency after flash cure compared to other resin cements.” Nine evaluators rated handling as excellent, 2 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good.
When asked about viscosity, 7 evaluators rated it as excellent, 4 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. With regard to ease of placement, an evaluator from Virginia said, “I like using the intraoral tips and placing into the post space.”

Evaluator Feedback: “Truthfully, you need only 1 great versatile cement,” said a New York dentist who cited ease of use and multiple applications as his favorite features. Versatility was rated as excellent by 9 evaluators, as very good by 1, and as good by 2.
Overall Satisfaction
Ten dentists called RelyX Ultimate much or somewhat better than similar products, with comments such as “I loved it,” “a great product indeed,” and “nice color blending with the restoration.” “Great material, great handling, terrific shades,” said a dentist in practice for 23 years. “A go-to product for maximum esthetics and strength. Scotchbond universal is a wonderful bonding agent and application is simple.”
