DentaPure’s water purification system provides worry-free water purification for an entire year, without the need for routine protocols.
While any dentist would like to be sure they are using clean, safe water in their high-speed drills and other instruments, many may not be aware that their water is unlikely to meet CDC and ADA standards if left untreated. Clinicians must take measures to ensure that the number of bacteria in their water used for non-surgical procedures is as low as reasonably possible.
In an effort to provide dentists a simple means to ensure water quality, DentaPure from Crosstex uses technology that was initially developed to support manned missions aboard the Space Shuttle and International Space Station. The system uses a flowthrough cartridge containing iodinated ion exchange resin that kills microorganisms and imparts a biocidal residual elemental iodine concentration to the water to maintain drinkability.
The product is so effective at eliminating waterborne bacteria that it meets or exceeds American Dental Association requirements, which is why this space-certified technology was incorporated into the DentaPure water purification system.1 According to the team of Dental Product Shopper clinicians who evaluated the DentaPure system, the product takes the guesswork out of providing clean, safe dental water without the need for complicated protocols.
"A product that makes my life easier for a change," is how Dr. James Ward described the DentaPure water purification system. This same evaluator went on to report that he would definitely purchase the system and recommend it to his colleagues.
Ease of Installation and Time Savings
Adopted by NASA as the preferred means to disinfect drinking water aboard U.S. spacecraft, the water purification technology is scalable for use in schools, hospitals, municipal water treatment plants, and is portable enough to help in emergencies, such as floods and other natural disasters, when infrastructure is compromised.2 According to Crosstex, the Denta Pure system is designed for exceptional, worry-free ease of use, and is easily self-installed within a few minutes.
"Installation is so easy and you can forget about it for a year. It can't get any easier!" said hygienist Dot Weisheipl. "Install and you are done...no daily or weekly stuff to do," said Dr. Marykay Krivy from Cheyenne, WY. Sharing the same sentiment, Dr. Stewart M. Sheinbein added, "[There are] no ongoing procedures; put it in once and it's good for a year."
Effectiveness
When used according to labeling, the DentaPure system meets all known microbiological water standards and recommendations. The system does not leave harmful substances in wastewater and, unlike bleach or peroxide-based cleaners, causes no corrosion or etching of metal components in dental units, according to the manufacturer. DentaPure eliminates the need to use tablets or mix chemicals and requires no daily, weekly or monthly testing protocols. DentaPure provides safe and effective uninterrupted waterline treatment and there is no need for routine shocking, tablets, distilled water or complicated monitoring protocols.
Several of the evaluators commented on the system's effectiveness. "We don't have to go shopping for distilled water or use chemicals in the system," said Robert Ruhl, DMD. Echoing a similar thought, Dr. Ward said. "Change the cartridge and forget it for a whole year!" Dr. Roger Fieldman shared, "[The system provides a] huge time savings, [and we] save on distilled water."
When asked for suggested improvements, a few other evaluators commented on the taste of the treated water, including 1 dentist who remarked that some patients had commented on the water having a subtle taste.
Dr. John Wispelwey, who said he would definitely recommend the system and rated his overall satisfaction as excellent, summed up his thoughts: "It's reliable and easy to use, and delivers what they said it would."
Overall, the Dental Product Shopper evaluators were strong in their support of this product's effect on sensitivity and patient experience. Ninety percent of them said they are likely to recommend DentaPure water purification system to their peers. Their evaluation of this product, based on all the parameters, earned the system a "Best Product" status by DPS evaluators.
