CEREC AC

CAD/CAM System CEREC AC is the first CAD/CAM system to enable both chairside milling and laboratory-generated restorations—both with unprecedented accuracy and speed. In January of 2009, Sirona introduced its CEREC AC (acquisition center), the next evolution in CAD/CAM dentistry. Designed for unprecedented precision, visibility, speed, and versatility with full-range capability, CEREC AC is the first system to enable both chairside restoration milling and transmission of digital impressions to the laboratory.

Designed for unprecedented precision, visibility, speed, and versatility with full-range capability, Dentsply Sirona’s CEREC AC is the first system to enable both chairside restoration milling and transmission of digital impressions to the laboratory.

The system is powered by Dentsply Sirona’s Bluecam technology, which captures exceptionally detailed images with a high degree of accuracy,1 and the new CEREC 3D software, which significantly expands clinical indications.

In its automatic-capture mode, the Bluecam senses the right time to capture the image without user intervention, eliminating substandard images and capturing half-arch impressions in 40 seconds and full-arch impressions in 2 minutes. A uniform field of illumination optimizes precision.

The system features connectivity with current and future digital technologies.

Ease of Use (Impression Capture and Software)
The 12 dentists who evaluated the CEREC AC rated both ease and speed of digital impression capture. Ease of capture was rated as excellent by 10 evaluators and as very good by 2. Speed of capture was rated as excellent by 11 evaluators and as very good by 1. The evaluator who said it was “very easy to capture a quadrant in about 10 seconds” also said, “I’ve used all the systems and this is the easiest to capture.” One evaluator said autofocus and autocapture “make digital impressions extremely easy” and another said autocapture “allows you to take all necessary scans in minutes.” The evaluator who said autocapture “made the learning curve almost disappear” also called CEREC AC “the fastest I’ve used. You can truly take a full arch in about 16 images and in 1 minute.”

“Ease of use of CEREC 3D software was rated as excellent by 8 evaluators, as very good by 3, and as good by 1. One evaluator called the learning curve “minimal and easily overcome.” One dentist described the software as “intuitive and uncomplicated… easy for anyone with any level of computer experience,” and another called it “very userfriendly and intuitive for the new user.”

Impression Quality
The quality of the digital impressions captured with the CEREC AC was rated as excellent by 11 evaluators and as good by 1. One dentist called it “okay for quads” and reported “optical distortion with full-mouth [impressions].” One evaluator described the images as “extremely crisp and clear,” another called the impressions “precise and accurate,” and a third called them “the best I’ve ever seen.”

Restoration Fit
The CEREC AC’s Bluecam diode emits blue light with a short wavelength, improving depth of field, generating high-precision images of the preparation margins, and yielding extremely accurate optical impressions.2 Eleven evaluators rated restoration fit as excellent and 1 rated it as good. Comments included “fantastic,” “just as good if not better than anything I get from the laboratory,” and “excellent crown and veneer fit.”

One dentist said, “CEREC has always had a precision fit, but the CEREC AC allows the process to be extremely efficient.”

Patient satisfaction was rated as excellent by 11 evaluators and as very good by 1. Comments included “they love the technology,” “once they have 1-visit dentistry they don’t want anything else,” and “patients request it.” One dentist noted, “It’s the best part of my day. Patients love the convenience of same-day restorations.”

Overall Satisfaction
All 12 evaluators said they would definitely buy the CEREC AC and would definitely recommend it to colleagues; 11 called it much better than similar CAD/CAM systems. Overall satisfaction was rated as excellent by 11 evaluators and as very good by 1. The dentist who called it “as easy to use as an intra-oral camera” added, “I have yet to find a place in the mouth that I can’t use the camera.” Another evaluator called it “the biggest practice builder I’ve invested in.”
