VIDEO DENTAL CONCEPTS

QuickCam Duo Alpha

The QuickCam Duo Alpha camera offers the best of both worlds with high-quality intraoral and extraoral images in one handpiece

Seeing is believing” is a concept that especially rings true in a dental practice, where you can explain a diagnosis and solution to a patient until you’re blue in the face, and—without seeing visible evidence—all the patient hears is dollar signs. Sometimes, you need to skip the logical explanation and take a different route—show the patient a full-color photograph that demonstrates the problem in detail with no words necessary. What better way to do that than with a 2-in-1 camera that provides high-quality intra- and extraoral photos? The QuickCam Duo Alpha from Video Dental Concepts gives dental practices the best of both worlds with 2 cameras conveniently built into 1 handpiece.

“I love using the QuickCam Duo Alpha,” especially for patient education and documentation, said Dr. John Adams, who appreciates the convenience of having a 2-in-1 camera and has purchased several of the QuickCam Duo Alpha cameras for his dental practice. “Many times, an x-ray does not demonstrate a need for a crown, but a photograph will show the cracks and discolorations that make a crown necessary,” he explained. Equipped with unique Liquid Lens Autofocus technology, extremely high resolution, and user-friendly features, the QuickCam Duo Alpha delivers high-quality intraoral and extraoral images that can help improve workflow, increase case acceptance, and improve patients’ lives.

Design, Features, & Versatility

By combining an intra- and extraoral camera in one device, Video Dental Concepts created a dynamic duo that allows users to quickly take intraoral, full-face, arch, and quadrant images from the same handpiece. The compact, lightweight QuickCam Duo Alpha is comfortable to use, and the tapered head keeps patients comfortable. The camera includes 1 automatic focus button, 2 ambidextrous programmable capture buttons, and an extraoral lens with Liquid Lens Technology for clear images. It is compatible with most dental imaging software and connects to a computer with a USB cable.

Searching for a camera with “different focal lengths for closeups and full-face photos,” Dr. Ashish Arya praised the QuickCam Duo Alpha’s “2 different settings to address full-face vs. closeups” and “that you can easily replace the cable without replacing the whole camera.” Naming the “dual camera” as his favorite feature, Dr. Andrew Finley suggested that “a wireless camera would be nice,” and Dr. Adams would like a good warm-up lens system. Commending the manufacturer’s customer service, Dr. Adams said, “It is very easy to install, and the tech support provided by the company is easy to get answers quickly and online support as needed.”

Image Quality

Dr. Abraham Jaskiel was thrilled with the “predictable, clear, high-resolution intraoral photos” and said they were better than images from other devices. “I used my regular intraoral camera on a patient, and, after getting OK photos, I found myself wanting to use the QuickCam Duo because the focus and resolution were superior,” he explained. “It’s certainly easier to explain clear pictures to a patient than blurry ones,” he added. “It has good resolution, is easy and lightweight to handle, and is inexpensive enough to have one in each operatory,” reported Dr. Adams. Noting that the “quality of the image” is her favorite feature, Joy Driscoll, RDH, was pleased that “the picture is clear” but said she “didn’t like having to hit the focus button all the time.” Dr. Finley also appreciated the “quality of the photos,” and hygienist Katie Gemperlein said she would recommend the camera to colleagues because of the “clear and consistent images.”

“It is a very easyto-use camera for intraoral photographs of before and after a procedure, and documents existing conditions that can be shared with the patient.”

- John W. Adams, DDS Salina, KS

Increased Case Acceptance & ROI

Excited to find a camera that allows him to “educate patients and document a patient’s oral conditions,” Dr. Adams shared, “It is a very easy-to-use camera that allows intraoral photographs of before and after a procedure, and also documents existing conditions that can be shared with the patient as well as archived with the chart for future reference.” Calling the QuickCam Duo Alpha “convenient and relatively inexpensive,” Dr. Arya said it’s especially useful with “new-patient exams where we take full-face, smile, bite, and closeup photos of every tooth.” For Gemperlein, the camera “has been an invaluable tool in improving case acceptance,” and she estimates that her practice’s “production has increased 50%” since investing in this technology.

Overall Satisfaction

Instead of using words, sometimes you simply need to let a picture tell the story, and the QuickCam Duo Alpha assists dental practices in doing just that. Describing how the camera impacted his practice, Dr. Arya concluded, “It was beneficial because I only had to use one camera.” Declaring that he would purchase additional cameras and would recommend the QuickCam Duo Alpha to colleagues, Dr. Adams said, “I have used intraoral cameras for over 35 years and appreciate the value of them.”
