Panoramic Corporation focuses on designing easy-to-use, durable, and affordable panoramic x-ray systems that produce exceptional images. The company has indicated that they have built upon this foundation with the PC- 4000, which combines a legacy of proven performance with cutting-edge digital technology.
Panoramic Corporation describes the Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) sensor technology used in the PC- 4000 as more efficient than other sensors, because it minimizes light distortion by directly converting x-ray energy into electronic digital output. According to the manufacturer, this results in image clarity and contrast that is improved up to 300%.
The complete PC-4000 installation option includes a properly matched computer system with preloaded imaging software. According to the manufacturer, this easy-to-use software allows multi-focal layer imaging for adjustment and enhancement along with magnification and the elimination of the spinal column shadow.
Dental Product Shopper invited several current users of the PC-4000 to participate in this product evaluation. The dentist evaluators rated such features as image quality and anatomical accuracy, overall ease of use, patient comfort, staff satisfaction, and ability to aid in treatment planning.
Image Quality and Anatomical Accuracy
Materials supplied by the manufacturer stress the clarity of images produced using the PC-4000. The system’s autofocus and manual focus features help to resolve unclear images without subjecting the patient to additional exposures.
The evaluators were asked to rate both image quality and anatomical accuracy of images created with the PC-4000. Four evaluators rated image quality as excellent and 4 rated it as very good. With regard to anatomical accuracy, 5 evaluators rated the unit as excellent and 3 rated it as very good. One evaluator commented on the images, calling them “crisp and clear.” This same evaluator went on to say that even patients are “impressed by the quality of the images.”
Overall Ease of Use
Panoramic Corporation describes patient positioning and machine operation as easy with simplistic techniques and tools. Clinicians use touch pad controls to guide them through the operational procedures. In addition, userfriendly software features allow for easy image enhancement.
When asked about overall ease of use of the PC-4000, 4 rated the unit as excellent, 3 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. Two evaluators commented that they would like to see a larger digital display. Four evaluators named ease of use as their favorite feature of the PC-4000. An evaluator who practices in California said, “It’s very easy to take an x-ray. It doesn’t take much time at all.”
Patient Comfort and Staff Satisfaction
All of the evaluators said that patient comfort is important or very important to them when considering the purchase of a digital panoramic system. When asked to rate the PC-4000 on patient comfort, 5 rated it as excellent and 3 rated it as very good.
The evaluators were also asked to rate staff satisfaction with the unit. Six rated it as excellent and 2 rated it as very good. One evaluator said, “My staff loves the ease of use.”
Overall Satisfaction
When asked if they would recommend the PC-4000 to colleagues or purchase it again in the future, all of the evaluators said definitely or probably. When asked for their overall satisfaction rating of the system, 6 rated it as excellent and 2 rated it as very good.
Several of the evaluators commented on the customer service they have received when working with Panoramic Corporation. An evaluator who practices in Lafayette, LA, said, “The company is fantastic to work with. Great people with a great product.” Another evaluator said, “I was willing to make the investment into digital pan PC-4000 because I trust the company.” This same evaluator went on to say, “Whenever I have had any problem, they have been quick to respond and right on target with the right solution.”
