OP 3D
This user-friendly, state-of-the-art x-ray platform features 2D and 3D technologies with multiple innovations that create extraordinary image quality
Sometimes “good” simply isn’t good enough. Although the scans Dr. Jeffrey Brown was receiving from his previous scanner were “good,” he really wanted “more detail for complex implant dentistry and better comprehensive care general dentistry.” Thankfully, the ORTHOPANTOMOGRAPH OP 3D from DEXIS was exactly what the doctor ordered. Combining exceptional image quality with maximum operating comfort, the 3-in-1 OP 3D is ideal for 2D panoramic or 3D imaging, with or without a cephalometric option.
OP 3D is loaded with innovative features—4 predefined 3D fields of view, Metal Artifact Reduction, noise reduction and crisp filter options, improved bitewing view, and Low Dose Technology, as well as high-precision 2D imaging with multilayer pan function and V-Shape-Beam Technology. So, it’s no surprise that Dr. Brown declared, “It has exceeded all of my expectations.”
Ease of Use & Image Quality
User-friendly software and a touch panel user interface offer simple, intuitive operation. Metal Artifact Reduction reduces the influence of scattered radiation, V-Shape-Beam Technology ensures homogeneous image presentation, and multilayer pan function provides 5 panoramic images with one scan—compensating for incorrect positioning and difficult anatomies. Image quality is further optimized with Automatic Spine Compensation, Automatic Facial Contour, and ORTHOfocus, while Low Dose Technology and Automatic Dose Control optimize exposure levels in both 2D and 3D.
Impressed by OP 3D’s “simple operation and efficient workflow to acquire images,” Dr. Adam Beno said it is “very user-friendly and has a simplified control panel that enables any team member to take the images. It is easy to operate, has excellent image quality, and the software is top quality.”
Darin Throndson’s imaging center needed a way to collect bone data for patients whose dentists don’t have 3D scanning capability, and the OP 3D was a perfect fit. “The machine and software are very user-friendly and provide consistent, superclear images and intuitive tools to identify anatomic structures,” Throndson shared. Dr. Brown, who displays the scans on a TV for patient education, also praised the image quality, saying, “Showroom esthetics are backed up by crisp images. All critical landmarks are easily identified, and all abscesses, vertical root fractures, airway insufficiencies, and pathologies are easily seen.”
Planning & Diagnostics
OP 3D’s software offers comprehensive analysis and planning with integrated programs for optimized image quality, from local diagnostics to the entire maxillofacial region. “OP 3D allows me to visualize and examine jaw and tooth structures in 3D” for safe implant placement and diagnosis, shared Dr. Raj Gaur. “The information it provides is invaluable.” Dr. Dennis Flanagan said the imaging “determines anatomical proximities” while reducing the risk of complications, and Dr. DeLayne Lefevre said she “can detect a fracture in the mandibular canine and then plan for implant placement.” “OP 3D is a necessary addition to my practice to plan for fully guided implant placement,” Dr. Beno shared. “It provides a clear image of each tooth as well as the surrounding anatomical structures.” Instead of sending patients elsewhere for scans, Dr. Beno “takes the CBCT, views the area of concern, and provides an accurate assessment and treatment recommendations during that visit,” which helps patients “make informed decisions about their treatment options.” For Throndson, “the quality of the scans leads to more efficient planning for guided implant surgery.”

Versatility
Clinicians can choose from 4 image resolutions for all 5 volume sizes for any indication in general dentistry, implantology, endodontics, orthodontics, and oral surgery. “One of our favorite ways to use the technology is to scan dentures with the OP 3D, convert the DICOM to an STL file, and input into our design software for fabricating duplicate dentures without models,” said Throndson. For Dr. Lefevre, OP 3D “provides a needed image, pano to access growth and development, and CBCT for implant planning” and “meets and exceeds my expectations at a good price point.” Dr. Beno said he obtains “predictable results for treatments like guided implant placement, assessment of potential pathologies and much more.”
Overall Satisfaction
Noting that several dentists have purchased the OP 3D based on his recommendation, Throndson said, “It sets us apart as a value-added service to offer our referring dentists.” Dr. Gaur described it as “a sophisticated piece of machinery that allows dentists to provide the most optimal care.” The OP 3D helps practices boost productivity, and, according to Dr. Brown, “is definitely a practice builder.”
